I'm Black British, and while we have our own fair share of systematic oppression similar to America, it is in no way as dangerous as Black men and women have it. I've made it to 22 years of age without once being patted down, stopped and searched or arrested. I'm proud of that fact but i know just how fortunate my life has been by not growing up in America.
When i was younger, America literally seemed like the greatest place on earth. And in some ways, it still is. But as i grew older and learnt the dark truth of that awful country, i'm glad i lived in conservative, dry, miserable Britain. I'm so proud of the fact, following Trayvon, Mike, Vonderrit and countless others, black folk (and others!) are turning to Social Media to organise and protest these decisions. I feel that their will be change, soon, but it won't happen overnight and i predict a lot more anguish and pain before that does happen.
I just pray that, once the verdict comes through, we're not mourning another life lost as a result of these impending protests/riots
