Well, people are free to change their metrics however they deem necessary, but it will still likely be true that Gaga and/or Rihanna will surpass Madonna in record sales within a decade.

Obviously she might never sell 100 million albums thanks to piracy,can't compare her to vet stars on the basis of album sales.Now please don't bring up Adele,her selling albums doesn't mean piracy rates haven't gone up ridiculously,only means that she might of sold 40 million had it been 2000.

at people comparing album sales from the last decadrs with today In my opinion she has already beaten Britney I mean the impact on culture she has

. I don't know where she'll be in 25 years(maybe she'll be dead already??) but I think her fanbase is strong enough to be there for her that long. plus she seems to shape up as a tour artist

I think she will remain successful for a long time but she peaked too soon.That didn't happen with Madonna.It did happen with Britney though.

Actually it means her music was good enough that generally everyone loved it and everyone and their mom decided to buy it.. If Britney's, Gaga's and Madge's albums were considered that good, everyone would buy it. But clearly, that is not the case. (in the general public's opinion)

WRONG calculation. Why? You wish Gaga's coming 2 albums are going to sell what her first 2 sold. She will continue to decline just like Britney declined with her albums.

I mean, it's never fair to compare sales in different eras to one another, but what else are you supposed to do?

It's not like this is the only time album sales have been "weak" relative to the 1980s and 1990s. Before the 1960s, album sales were completely irrelevant. Take any major success in the 1960s and you'll see it sold less than any arbitrary year-end album did in any year post-2000. Born This Way probably sold more copies this year than any album did in a calendar year in the 1960s. Creating some type of metric for relative success is hard and ultimately subjective, and it becomes even more complex when you consider acts who've been active throughout many different recording eras.

8 million is the shipments. I haven't seen a Gaga stan claim 8 million in awhile. Most have been gotten together.

Well, if GaGa is supposedly making music thats more for everyone with this next album (which has been confirmed), I expect the album to sell like hot cakes.

But how proud can they be of that? Seeing as (like I said) it'll mean much less.

I'm not a defensive Madge stan, I just think comparisons are unfair to Madonna (because of single sales) and the younger popgirls (because of album sales).

BTW, I think Britney sold 45 million albums in 3 years from her first two releases, and look at her now. Not saying Gaga's going to follow that trend, but we don't know where her career could be in 10 years.
