I do think that would be the method they'd go with, but there is always a possibility of a nationwide ban.

I don't believe they would have to.

The states that got gay marriage from the lower court cases before Obergefell v Hodges decided it on the national scale would have to, though.

He won't bother. If it does, it goes back to the states and 30+ states already made it legal. It would take a LOT of work to get it overturned (a case would have to make it all the way back to the supreme court) and there isn't much point fussing with all that.

This is actually very good. People, me included, saying that he was just pandering for votes have to take into account the fact that he's also likely to pander for approval ratings. Which means words won't be enough.

Expect the unexpected when it comes to Donald Trump. He's defied all other expectations.

Personally? No. Trump is a businessman and knows we have great financial pull - he's far from an LGBT advocate, but he's a true New Yorker whose mind is only on money and ego. Therefore, he won't come after us as it would have an adverse effect on his business, but he WILL if he needs it to preserve his ego... Approval ratings among conservative voters if his ratings dip, and ESPECIALLY when he runs for reelection in 2020 (there's no way he, a textbook narcissist, wouldn't).

His cabinet is pure evil however, so if he does what I suspect he'll do (Bush 2.0, letting more knowledgeable people than himself roam free and run the country), we are truly in danger. And with no one to stop them (we got skewered in all branches yesterday, and dems don't vote in midterm elections), they will undo all the change we fought decades for in a single term.
