The segment seemed pretty self-aware in highlighting that the impression was mildly racist and offensive. Unless I am missing something? Like, it would have been different if it just ended on that girl doing the impression and no one batting an eye, but to me it only made the show because of what followed after.

I thought this as well. I couldn't find anything particularly offensive about this video. Even when the girl did a mock accent the head honcho of TMZ told her to pipe down. Then they all made fun of her.

They covered it because that girl group arriving at LAX caused a frenzy.
