Bigger current stars right now like "Justin Bieber", "One direction" , and "Taylor Swift" all appeared this season on X-factor and they did absoulutely nothing for the ratings.

Clearly the star power is there, however, X-Factor needs to more real-ness to it and not talk 15 million years for one performance. Also, it's really not that different from other talent shows. It needs a new unique feature to make the show more interesting. People aren't going to rush to another show that they've been getting with American Idol and The Voice.

Anyways, the show was already a complete disaster & it didn't help that The Voice chose to air in the fall also. TV is saturated with these singing shows right now and that's the main problem. If anything, Britney stopped the show from getting even worse ratings.

All those acts were invited to rise the ratings .. FOX was desperate

of course they could rise ratings ... their fans were supposed to watch the performances.

I think it was Foxay or maybe Patrick, not sure.

And that's how it indeed turned out to be. The haters rejoicing that the ratings didn't go up.

No one is saying the show flopped because of Britney but everybody expected the show's ratings to skyrocket from last year. She failed to do that because she was so boring and one-dimensional with her commentary. She didn't meet the show's buzz about her

B. She "helped" the VMA's 2008 because she was accepting awards from her Blackout era (and we know how controversial she was back then), and her comeback was only two months away.

C. When she appeared in the Glee episode in 2010, it was watched by 13.51 million, Glee's largest audience ever. When she appeared on Glee this year (three months ago), it attracted less than 7.5 million people.

D. I really wouldn't call "Scream & Shout" a "smash hit".

E. Yes the remix pushed S&M to #1 (since it was at #2), but the week after the sales went back down.

Basically what I'm saying is that, over the past two years or so, she's lost her spark. She appeared on those T.V shows 2-4 years ago, and made a big boost for the show. But after she appeared on the show again, it didn't give that "Britney-boost" again. During that time, I feel that she was still relevant and people still enjoyed her.

I think the more people realize that she "doesn't care" anymore, then they start to not care. Example - Britney may have boosted the S&M single up to #1, but when she performed it live, she was lipsyncing, no energy and she was just bored. If I remember correctly, she did the same when she performed Womanizer and Circus for the first time on GMA.

Artists always go on these kinds of shows whether its The Voice, X Factor, or AI to promote their latest singles. There is nothing unusual or "desperate" about that.

Fans are probably more likely to catch the performance on youtube or something of the artists performance if they're not into watching X-Factor.

If you're going to blame them though for the shows that they were on, that doesn't absolve Britney from the rest of the shows.

A. The ratings raised because of her - her first appearance got more press. More previews, coverage on Entertainment news shows, a TV Guide cover. Either way, ratings were high and you will deal.

B. Ratings raised because of her and continue to deal with it.

C. She did not appear on the show this year. She has only appeared on Glee once in 2010.

D. Scream and Shout is making huge gains in airplay each day and is still #4 on iTunes - and it's only just now taking off.

E. Who cares, because of Britney the song went #1. No promo, no video. Deal with it.

Taylor, One Direction, and Justin were on it. Obviously the biggest album sellers this year, none of them brought in big ratings. Its the show not the artist.
