Exactly!!! Everything about Oscars is campaigning.
Julianne's campaign is basically that "it's finally time for her to win the Oscar" so she has to win no matter the other performances. Just like Sandra Bullock had to win in 2009.
Not to mention Harvey Weinstein's insane campaign to push Meryl's (I love her) 3rd win for a film with also mediocre reviews just because Meryl hadn't won an Oscar in 30 years.

Not so fast sister.
The top five most critically acclaimed leading female performances of 2014:
1) Marion Cotillard - Two Days, One Night/The Immigrant
2) Essie Davis - The Babadook
3) Julianne Moore - Still Alice
4) Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl
5) Scarlett Johansson - Under The Skin
So we can kill that noise right now. Yes, Juli being overdue is a major part of her narrative - but she is getting CAREER BEST reviews for her performance. (She was also runner up at two of the three biggest critics awards, and won the National Board of Review.)
