Man, her singles sales are great. But her album sales are far below average in my opinion.
She sold like 16 million singles and 1.2million albums.
she almost outsold GGGB single sales (18M) and more than halfway to Fame (27M)and that sold almost 3milli and over 4 million respectively. Her record label should analyze the disconnect in my opinion since she's had so much promotion.

Loud already sold 1 million more than Teenage Dream and the gap gets bigger every week.

Why was this reported?

Exactly,16 million of singles. So it's pretty obvious that she can't sell 4 million of albums as Gaga, for example. While Gaga during The Fame era couldn't get 4 #1's because she was selling huge numbers of albums. You can't have huge singles (as Katy's) and album sales at the same time. So I repeat, her huge singles kinda makes up for not that great album sales.
And @Bathomet boo, that post was unnecessary.

And that album was released 3 years earlier, had 7 singles, no parental advisory on the cover, and was re-released. Until Reloaded came along, it was stalling around 1.2-1.3 million but managed to double those sales in the long run. TD is past 1.4 million and if she releases another 3 singles I'm pretty sure she could reach GGGB numbers and nearly double its single sales.

I like both and think that comparing is very very difficult but this sounds just realistic.

Adele nearly quadrupling the number two album and undoubtedly saving the industry from the horrible sales.
