This performance hits me hard. It is one of if not her best. The acoustic version of Telephone with new lyrics is amazing and emotional, her transition to that minimal-wave remix of Dance In the Dark with the lighting effects behind her, that snythesizer bass, and enormous statue. I die.

P!nk really made that whole show amazing. Thankfully the producers saw her on tour and were like "yep, we're modeling the VMA's after this". I mean though, the whole night...Madonna doing the tribute to Michael Jackson, the Kanye thing.
I found Gaga a little lackluster watching this just now. Maybe all the praise led to higher expectations? It was the first time I watched it since 2009 and from what you read, it was amazing. But what I saw was a bunch of wasted time until she got covered in blood. Still though, I was at a Halloween party that year and audio from this performance was used on the playlist.
Still so amazing. I kinda love how she had the nerve do do a performance like this and make a video like Paparazzi not even a year after breaking into the spotlight.
One of the best VMA performances ever, and the definition of iconic.
You can shade Gaga all you want, but her impact on live performances, fashion, music videos, and how she made the other girls step their game up is undeniable.
