Here's a good passage:

While they were enjoying themselves, the men of the city, a bunch of scoundrels, surrounded the house and beat on the door. They said to the old man who was the owner of the house, “Bring out the man who has come into your house, so that we may get intimate with him.”
The man who was the owner of the house went out to them and said, “No, my brothers; do not be so wicked. This man has come into my house; do not commit this terrible crime. Instead, let me bring out my virgin daughter and this man’s concubine. Humiliate them, or do whatever you want; but against him do not commit such a terrible crime.”
But the men would not listen to him. So the man seized his concubine and thrust her outside to them. They raped her and abused her all night until morning, and let her go as the sun was coming up.
At the approach of morning the woman came and collapsed at the entrance of the house in which her husband was, and lay there until morning.
When her husband rose in the morning and opened the door of the house to start out again on his journey, there was the woman, his concubine, collapsed at the entrance of the house with her hands on the threshold.
“Come, let us go,” he said to her, but there was no answer. So the man placed her on a donkey and started out again for home.
On reaching home, he got a knife and took hold of the body of his concubine. He cut her up limb by limb into twelve pieces and sent them throughout the territory of Israel.

And yet people use this book as the source of their "morality".
Edit: How about another. This time God is giving instructions on how to handle worshippers of "false gods":

And when you take their daughters as wives for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves with their gods, they will make your sons do the same.

So many people that claim to be Christians don't even know half the **** the bible says.
Like all of the natural disasters are because god is angry.
According to their book all the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the Tsunamis in Japan are the work of their god.
Of course there are the ones that say "It's how you interpret it"
Modern day Christians are just.... ![JonnyϟLightning](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/jonny_zpsc73391c5.png)

The Bible is mostly metaphorical. There are like a thousand ways to explain every passage contained in it hence the schism of Christianity. It is the literal interpretations of some people that make the Bible sound nasty and spurious.

My family is Roman Catholic but I am Deist. I believe that there is a God but he gave you free will and the ability to make your own decisions, but he can help you in times of need.

Well, most people determine what's moral by either the way they were raised or what they simply "feel" is right (by the way, that "feeling" is actually hormonal—our bodies have built-in "morality"). People don't really use the Bible much at all as far as morality is concerned, so I don't really know why that Holy Book (or any holy book, for that matter) is still placed on such a high pedestal.

PLEASE do explain how these two verse could possible be explained in a non sexist and inhumane sounding way.
"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."
"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet."

This! A fundamentalist interpretation of what the Bible says is what has left so many with a bad taste of Christianity overall.

You believe in slavery, rape, inzest and considering women as lower than men? ![Bibliotheque](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/biblio_zps23dff242.gif)
I'm sure you don't.
Why do Christians know less about their bible than us atheist do.
They only know what the media and the church reads every Sunday.
It's sad really. ![toofunny3](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/toofunny3_zps08814413.gif)
Me,I prefer reality.
Edit:And when science and society drift away from a certain part it's a metaphor all of the sudden ![toofunny3](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/toofunny3_zps08814413.gif)

In theology class we analyzed the second passage you mentioned. If you take the context of the authorship of Exodus into consideration, the author was very much concerned with the stability of the Jewish faith who were being persecuted to an unimaginable extent. Through all the persecution, however, the author wanted to make very clear that if you were to stray from the path of God, the consequences would be great.

I know. It's exhausting to know more about everyone else's religion than they themselves do. ![toofunny2](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/toofunny2_zpsb54f2d2d.gif)

I definitely agree.
I wish more people would look at the context of the text. Maybe then they'd realize passages like that have no place in today's world.

Atheist.
But I do pray sometimes and wish on something. ![Dancehall Queen](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/dancehall_zps88e4c4c6.png) Not sure to whom though, definitely not 'God'.

Baptist Christian. I have yet to be baptized, though I'm very close to God and Jesus's messages.
