Yes, for some reason the general public just doesn't want a dark-skinned woman to represent them in pop. It's incredibly sad, especially since most light-skinned stars notoriously bleach.

Not some reason.... ONE REASON: We live in a world where European features are seen as superior. Long wavy/straight hair, light eyes, light skin and the rest. It's seen as the standard of beauty.
I certainly wouldn't call her or Whitney dark skinned tho. There is a middle here.
