She didn't lie. I can't remember the last time (this decade) that a collaboration didn't feel like a contrived scheme by the record labels. Like others have said, the genuine collaboration is dead and gone (I'm talking about those made into singles, not the album tracks that the majority will never hear).

But I kinda agree. Collabs used to feel special, now they usually feel like cheap attempts to score a hit, crack a market, or pull together multiple fanbases. It tends to overshadow any artistry that might've gone into it.

Not really, Beyonce doesn't have much to gain from throwing a bone to Nicki, she already has that base under a lock.

I do agree though, collaborations used to be special.

Lily was forced to sing and hates Air Balloon. Lily didn't even perform it when I saw her on tour.
She loves her album. She hates that song.

The album is a fun album, and the only reason why people hate it is because her last album was acclaimed for being so serious.

She explained that it was not on the level of her last album, because people expected another serious album like INMIY.
Anyway, that actually has nothing to do with what she said.

It's honestly funny because all she said was people should make music because they want to, rather than to sell.

And last time I checked, when she sits down and chooses to write serious music, she was hailed on ATRL for being an incredible lyrist.

Her last album got 71 on Metacritic, and still managed to sell 2 million in the current sales climate (on top of the fact she's a UK act).

Obviously the GP aren't here for fun Lily, and prefer serious Lily, but don't ever doubt her capabilities.

Jessie J has had a bit hit in the US as a solo artist before. People on ATRL try and tell you she's a flop and unknown, but she's actually had big hits before.

Ariana is infact the one who's never had a hit as a solo artist before.

She did not say people expected another serious album, just that the different attitudes of HOH and Air Balloon may have thrown people off. This of course, was in an interview in which she discussed wanting to do well commercially, else this topic probably wouldn't have come up at all.

It's not that people aren't here for fun Lily. Her first two hits were funny, quirky songs, and she followed them with more releases like Alfie and Not Fair. It's that people aren't here for the watered-down, lyrically weak rubbish that she's being throwing at them. And if she can't write songs that are both lighthearted as well as interesting anymore, then yes, I do indeed need to doubt her capabilities - as she herself seems to.
