If I were giving an award for most improved, Mr. Hernández would
be the recipient. Songs like Just the Way You Are, Billionaire, Nothin'
On You, made him the lowest on the low to me; songs like Locked Out
of Heaven, Gorilla, and If I Knew make it all better somehow. An enjoyable
listen beginning to end, recommend to anyone who has ever felt feelings
of disdain towards Peter's über manufactured tunes.
While listening, however, I still feel that every track is calculated more than
honest. Surely, this is the case with most major acts, but Bruno for me has
always had a very synthetic feel. If Bruno was a fashion designer I would be
accusing him of being more of a costume designer. One can imagine the
previous hits looked at for the songs made to be singles to be insured to
smash - a question raised could be if the only difference in Unorthodox
Jukebox was more varied source material. Enjoyable, nonetheless.
