If it's fraying or yellowing/melting near the part that connects to you MBP, they can just swap out the first piece and it's cheaper than replacing the entire charger. I have had that done 1 or 2 times.

I never bought AppleCare, and my one-year warranty is long expired.
The outer material near the port is torn, but I don't really want to pay any money for a new charger, because I'll buy the new MBP when Apple releases it later this year. My charger works, but I hate that it's torn nn.
Is it worth a shot to just go in and ask?
