I actually think this is a good idea to gain her more longevity like she had with Scream & Shout rather than just being extremely front loaded.
will.i.am is very cozy with Dr Luke and his team at the moment. Expect a couple of Dr Luke tracks on the new album, including this one if it's a massive hit.

Waiting that long will hurt the lead single more than releasing a soundtrack single would. And there will be no "comeback" since she already did that 5 years ago with Womanizer.............
If it is good, they should capitalise on the success of S&S and really push it to smash.
If it is bad, they should treat it as a buzz single for the album. It doesn't matter if soundtracks flop- they are never expected to perform well in the first place.
