Britney was debuting with 1 million without discounts, going #1 on Hot 100 with Single Sales solely basically (which was very rare then) because people were buying her music, and death @ the Monsters trying to make her selling in 2000 a small deal when she went DIAMOND.

Also for y'all who clearly don't know much about charts, first-week sales were NOT huge at all then. She was breaking records, hence Highest Female Debut EVER.

No bias here but as a 26 year old, I saw both careers. I would say Britney. She was a game changer. Her success was immediate right after her debut single, video, and, album.

Gaga was like a sleeper hit. It took sometime for people to notice her. (She peakef with Bad Romance)

And comparing album sales from when Britney first came onto the scene to now is extremely ignorant. It's possible to prove Britney was bigger at her peak and also recognize that album sales have had a dramatic decrease with the onslaught of online piracy.

2007 was huge for Britney. She become the most photographed woman of all-time, surpassing Princess Diana. She may not have been held in a positive light, but she was bigger in 2007 than Gaga ever was.

It's even easier NOW then it was then to debut with 1 million copies. Do you know how FRONTLOADED the industry is now? Compare the # of 1 million debuts the past 10 years, to the 20 years before. Nobody even did 1 million debuts until like 1999, mind you which were THE BIGGEST people of then (Eminem, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and BRITNEY SPEARS).

Why are you bringing up Lady Gaga? This thread is about Britney Spears. For as big as she was at her peak, it's sad she didn't stay there longer.

Isn't that why we have TEAs? It's not like Lady Gaga didn't debut at the peak of digital sales. Even when you use TEA conversions, Lady Gaga's debut is only around half of Britney's debut sales.
