It actually didn't flop. It just wasn't a box office sensation, and that's because it was hand drawn and it had elements of voodoo which turned some off. If they were to do a CG animated 3D film about another African Princess, it would fair a lot better.

I once read or heard somewhere that Brave director, Brenda Chapman, didn't initially set out to make Merida a princess, per se, but she wound up making Merida a princess to make the plot work, not because Pixar/Disney wouldn't make an animated picture with a female protagonist that wasn't a princess. If Disney finds a marketable tale, (preferably from a long dead writer so they won't have to pay royalties) that they think they can adapt for profit, then they'll do it, even if the protagonist isn't royalty.

There is no such thing as "Latin mythology" and no south American country has a monarchy (unless you count the Carribean, who's Monarchs are European).

They could do Aztec or Mayan, but then she wouldn't be Latina.

But that shouldn't stop them from making a movie about a Latin character.
