Lady Gaga comes back into the public's eye with an explosive lead single, "Do What U Want." Not only does the song feature another Pop Queen, Xtina, but it's a complete representation of how the media controls a pop star. The general public absolutely loved it. The song debuted atop, and stayed there for 2 consecutive weeks, on the Hot 100 due to an explosive first week sales of 386,000 along with 28,000,000 first week US video views due to a racy and controversial that was released during the second week of release. The song managed to muster up a third week at the Hot 100 summit, after Katy Perry's "Roar" took control.

Gaga decided to release "Gypsy" as the second official single after seeing how well it performed during the album's first week. The song opened up at #16, prior to release, with $188,000 downloads. The song performs pretty decently, becoming a multi-format radio hit. The video is also very memorable racking in a lot of first week views. It features Gaga trekking through different countries trying to find her "one true love."

For the third single Gaga and her team decided to choose "Sexxx Dreams." The video for this single brought in a lot of "controversy" and caused a quite a lot of drama amongst stan bases. The song performed pretty well, reaching #7 on the Hot 100. However, radios were a bit reluctant to start playing the song at first, and it took a while for it to reach #9 on radio. The song started to peak on radio after it peaked on the Hot 100.

The general public was here for it more than radio, and that's why it stalled in the top 20. However, the song did show some longevity on pop radio, and on iTunes.

Release DWUW as the first single, and then I would honestly just scrap the album and push back the album.

I really don't think much would've changed about the era because of the shift in management and lack of promotion compared to her past releases. But here's what I would do
1st single: Venus. Surprise release to iTunes and radio on Aug 6th. It's risky but hidden behind the strange lyrics is a cookie cutter song structure with a killer chorus. and with a surprise release the internet would go crazy. Song gets strong radio play and peaks up at #2 and considered a strong comeback
2nd single: Do What U Want (feat. Christina). Release along with strong, safe video. Release only a few weeks before ARTPOP drops. Debuts at #1 due to strong youtube views and digital sales. Drops to #2 next week and stays in the top 10 for a surprisingly long time.
11/18/13 Artpop release day. Closer to Black Friday. Debuts at #1 w/ 370k copies sold. Stays at #1 for 3 weeks. Release tour dates that go from Spring to Winter 2014. Include South America, Asia. Better setlist with full performances of songs. The stage for the artRave was genius so keep it.
3rd single: Sexxx Dreams. Released very early 2014. Very explicit video that stirs up a lot of controversy that causes the song to peak at #17.
Let controversy from SD to die down
4th single: Gypsy. Release early Spring. Another strong release that peaks at #4 and remains a big hit all the way through till mid-summer.
5th single: Applause. Release late summer. A slow climber but eventually peaks at #1. Same video. Recognized as a triumphant end to a strong era.
Overall include a lot more TV Promo and radio interviews across the country. Keep Troy. Hire a new hair stylist. Endorsement with Versace leads to more Versace outfits. More magazine covers and interviews and basically just handle the era without it being so messy. ARTPOP is a great album. It's unfortunate that the era was tainted by extraneous factors

1. Aura (August 19, 2013)
2. Venus (October 28, 2013)
3. Sexxx Dreams (January 6, 2014)
3a. Jewels N' Drugs (January 6, 2014) *Urban and Rhythmic Radio ONLY*
4. G.U.Y. (April 7, 2014)
5. MANiCURE (July 7, 2014)
6. Do What U Want (October 6, 2014)
7. ARTPOP (January 5, 2015)

13. Applause (July 4, 2016)
14. Gypsy (October 3, 2016)
Don't deny a gal ha dream.
But, more realistically, these would have been my choices. (At the moment at least - they change somewhat often. There's just too much strong single material on the album to make any definitive choices.)
1. Aura (August 19, 2013)
2. Venus (October 28, 2013)
3. Sexxx Dreams (January 6, 2014)
3a. Jewels N' Drugs (January 6, 2014) *Urban and Rhythmic Radio ONLY*
4. G.U.Y. (April 7, 2014)
5. MANiCURE (July 7, 2014)
6. Do What U Want (October 6, 2014)
7. Gypsy (January 5, 2015)
8. Fashion! (April 6, 2015)
9. Applause (July 27, 2015)
In the end, I am happy with the three singles that were chosen. However, I think they should have released more than just three.

ARTPØP and Pandantic I love both of your ideas so much! OMG it makes me so devastated that the ARTPOP era went the way it did when it so didn't deserve the floppage.
I really wanted to make "Venus" the lead single in my own re-plan of the era, but I knew I'd be torn to shreds (or at least judged). The facts are that it's been my favourite song on the album since before the album came out, and has prevailed as my favourite to this day. It's incredible - and yes the lyrics are wacky, but I mean - it's Gaga. Who would she be if not for that? At least give her credit for not changing her character.
Dunno about the "cheesy" video, but something a little dark-ish to counterbalance the theatricality of the song what with like four hooks, "don't you know my ass is famous" lines and weird lyrics about rockets, garden panties, oyster aphrodisiacs etc.

1. Venus
2. Do What U Want
3. Applause
4. Gypsy
I believe all of the single would have been top 5 and the album could have sold 3-4 million WW.

The only right answer was to open with Gypsy, although it sounds like a closing single, it sounds the most epic, and after that, truthfully she could've done whatever. and really if she wanted to continue down the artist route, she should've just went all in and really released Aura as the first single, as it seems to embrace the hecticness and loudness of what ARTPOP musically was trying to do, rather then release Applause, which sounds like a cute pop song. People were thrown for a loop, when the visuals came along, especially the crazy venus stuff.
