Bruce Springsteen Heading for Top Debut on Billboard 200 Chart

Bruce Springsteen has a chance to earn his 11th No. 1 album next week on the Billboard 200 chart -- though the soundtrack to "Frozen" might block the Boss.

According to industry prognosticators, Springsteen's new album "High Hopes" may sell somewhere between 90,000 to 100,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on January 19. The set was released on January 14 through Columbia Records.

The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Meanwhile, the Billboard 200's current No. 1, "Frozen," might sell over 90,000 as well. "Frozen's" forecasted figure is more prone to fluctuate, as it is generally harder to predict sales of non-new releases. And, as noted this past week, "Frozen" performed stronger than expected in the week ending January 12 -- selling 86,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan (about 5,000 to 10,000 more than forecast a week ago).

If "High Hopes" hits No. 1, Springsteen will break out of a tie for the third-most No. 1s in the chart's history. He's presently tied for third with Elvis Presley. Ahead of them is Jay Z, with 13, and the Beatles, with 19.

Springsteen's last album, 2012's "Wrecking Ball," debuted at No. 1 with 196,000 sold in its first week. Before that, his last studio set, 2009's "Working On a Dream," opened at No. 1 with 224,000.

Other albums aiming for high debuts on the Billboard 200 chart next week include the "Kidz Bop 25" album (maybe 60,000) and Jennifer Nettles' solo debut "That Girl" (50,000-ish).

In a recent example, Pitch Perfect was selling consistently well (not as good as Frozen, obviously) and there was no single out until almost six months after the movie went to DVD (Cups). If the movie is good and the people are actually enjoying the music, they'll buy it based off of that. Also, it's movie awards season. I'm sure that's helping to fuel the sales as well as it's blockbuster success in the box office.

Idina Menzel's Let It Go is doing well on the single sales charts, so it may end up being sent to radio soon.

Singles aren't the only thing that can help sell albums.

He was on Jimmy Fallon to promote the album.
Also there was a huge promo for this album by CBS:
They played his songs on their radio stations but nothing insane like a payola.
They played few of his songs on their Sunday nights show (which I thought was genius because those shows are his target demo)
They streamed his album on their website.
What really hurt this album is that Amazon f** up and the January release.
