and repeated the melody one more time with slightly different lyrics, instead of going straight into the second verse.

Lol, sis, it's my favorite part, too, that's why I was surprised when she didn't repeat that part twice--instead, she went right into the second verse. If it's a catchy part, you want to maximize the catchiness. Katy Perry repeats "You're gonna hear me roar, oh-oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh" twice for a reason.
