50 // #Beautiful (feat. Miguel) - Mariah Carey
One of two songs this year to feature Miguel that I just completely ****ing love. This one is noticably lower than the other but still a great song all around and a nice listen. There's an acoustic remix that I listen to instead though instead of the original because I just think it strips the song down nicely.
49 // Dirty Laundry - Kelly Rowland
The first several times I played this, admittedly it was because I was intrigued(?) and then once I got past that I was able to really able to enjoy the song and understand how emotional it is.
48 // Recover - CHVRCHES
Completely intoxicating. While I was getting the youtube link I saw this comment "Good beat but the singer's voice is very tinny." and completely disagreed in my head. That's what makes this song so special, there's this sweet earnest feeling to it because of the "tiny" vocals and that just adds a complexity and tone that a big vocal would not be able to achieve.
47 // Adore You - Miley Cyrus
This spot would have gone to FU a while ago. I instantly was drown to FU and replayed it a lot. I'm sure I posted it should be released as a single and something about Miley being the next Adele with it. But, it doesn't replay well? And I kind of see it as messy, and well, tryhard now? On the opposite end of that, is a track I kind of slept on. Adore You is just completely unassuming and it lets itself just a love song, and it's kind of great because of that. This song could just replay in the background and i can enjoy it like that. SN: I hope the video has shotgunning, it just feels like it should.
46 // Daddy’s Girl - Natalia Kills
Natalia released some of the best pop music this year. This is one of my stand outs for me. It's just a song I want to listen to repeatedly. It's happy and just a good time. I love basically everything about this song, right from that sample (?) to the end it's just enjoyable and free from any of the usual mistakes Natalia tends to make (ie those recited laundry lists from her last album.) I have many fond memories of fagging out to this and plain out strutting in North Philly. nn;
