Baby steps, having a single black main character already puts it above 99% of other blockbusters in terms of racial diversity.
The main female in 7 is not confirmed for 8 as of yet, instead there is to be a black female lead. That means the two main characters will be black in the next movie - unless Oscar Issac is also a main character, then it's two black people and a Latino.

I understand that argument and I know John Boyega being a lead character is a huge deal, but some of the other characters could have been played by POC, is all i'm saying. White is such a default race in space movies, which makes no sense.
However we have John and Lupita (though she won't look like herself) and Oscar is latino, so that's good.
I think Rogue One is far more diverse, which I find interesting.
