the only real artist from that decade and that is Mrs. Lauryn Hill. And she is the ONLY ONLY ONLY REAL ARTIST FROM THE 90's. No doubt about it.
:hey****you:
Somebody posted a thread earlier this year of the Hot 100 in the year 2000, and almost everyone unanimously agreed that music was far superior then to what it is now. 2000 was basically the remnants of the 90's.
Lauryn Hill was incredible, but what about the groundbreaking artists like Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins? Or Janet, Madonna, and Mariah all releasing their zenith albums within the same year? What about the 3 women with 3 most successful female albums of all time; Whitney Houston, Shania Twain, and Alanis Morissette? The 90's introduced us to some of the biggest pop icons of all time like Britney and Eminem. And we saw the emergence of nu-metal bands like Linkin Park and Korn. How could you even dismiss Tupac or Biggie or Dre?
The 00's has definitely had its highlights. Even this year I think there was some unique, innovative songs like "American Boy," "Let It Rock," "Superstar" and some classics like "Bleeding Love" and "Viva La Vida," but for the most part I'd say the current music trend is in a MAJOR rut. 80% of what we're hearing sounds run-of-the-mill. We're too distracted with bells and whistles and gimmicks and not actually taking time to compose REAL music. Everybody is falling back on the same producers, same writers, same ideas and it's all getting so tedious. I hate to sound so pessimistic or like an oldster reminiscing on the 90's, but our generation has seriously hit a wall in terms of music. There's hardly anything out right now that will stand the test of time--I'd even include some of my most beloved artists this year like Rihanna and Katy in that list. We're officially the "iPod generation'...how sad? Instrumentalists and MUSICIANS are a dying breed.
^^i think yalls opinions are based on what yall grew up on. Some people dont open their minds. You may say you dont like music now-days but yet you still listen to it and love the hell out of it. I bet you have a Rihanna, Chris Brown, J. Hud, Jazmine, Keyshia, Britney, Christina, Justin, etc song on repeat and play it out

Um, I love today's music, but I'm saying that the overall quality of music right now has DECLINED compared to the music of the past. I happen to be very open minded to all kinds of music.

Like I said. I think this decade has had it's moments. I liked CB's "Forever" and Keyshia's "Let It Go" and of course Christina's Stripped was alright, but for the most part I don't think those musicians are very good. Well..to be fair, I haven't heard much of Jazmine yet but actually think she's got potential. And there are The White Stripes and Amy and some other awesome bands/artists that have emerged this decade. But my point is, it seems like there are fewer and fewer legit artists coming out each year. Labels are hurting for $ so they most likely don't want to invest in people with long-term potential and would rather focus on those with short-term goals so that the label can make a quick buck. Justin's last cd was a hamfisted, overproduced trainwreck, as was Daughtry's. And CB's "With You" reeked of tired production. AmIdol has polluted the market too with the exception of a few songs here and there from Kelly, Fantasia, Elliott, and Carrie.
ok so we've had LOW @ #1 for god knows how long which i was ok with and we had mariah @ #1 , lollipop at #1 and 2 rihanna songs at #1 and leona at #1 and Katy at #1, britney @ #1, and 2 TI songs @ #1 so i think the year 2008 has been GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!
I like rap. Lil wayne makes great music. that is why I listed him
But I learned rap is so fake. These new rappers coming up in their first videos with thousands of dollars huge houses lots of women and all these cars. Rap videos are all the same. You are supposed to tell a story in a music video. I am tired of the same I live in the ghetto but I overcame it crap we get it you came form the ghetto your hard. Not give me an epic thriller video. Missy Elliot is the only rap artist that pulls you in with her videos.
I know because I also live in the ghetto...I'm from New Orleans and everyone here knows Lil Wayne is one the the most studio rappers and used to get beat up by middle school kids when he went to high school...trust me I know because my brother went to school with him.
I mean, you're stating your opinion. I think alot of songs I hear now deserve to be #1's because they make me get out of my seat and dance or they make me feel better when Im sad. If i want some 90's, Ill go back to the only real artist from that decade and that is Mrs. Lauryn Hill. And she is the ONLY ONLY ONLY REAL ARTIST FROM THE 90's. No doubt about it.
I can tell you now, alot of music from the 90's I hated because it was boring. Now, its fun and upbeat and crazy and great. 2008 is the best year of music ever since I was born.

OMG There you go. This is why I love '90s music. There are only about five artists here that I haven't heard (and loved) songs from.

Xscape being the best one and the only one I would listen to on a daily. But all the others are good just boring to me
And if you tell me you prefer Lil Wayne over Tupac I will lose all respect for you sorry.
but i said Lil Wayne is the wackest rapper ever. Tupac is the one best rapper. And yeah those other artist are boring to me. Im not going to say i never liked them, but if i listen to them now, they will bore me.

Okay, I get confused between you and that other poster.
