Yes Ew.com!! Drag her! This is what I've been saying all along..she needs to stick to rap/hip-hop and stop trying to be Lady Gaga..she's at her best when she's rapping.

Although I don't necessarily agree, they do raise SOME good points. If anything I think the constructive criticism she's getting will ultimately help her.
And although I liked the performance I hope she doesn't do anything like that ever again.

She hasn't done a 360, she's just incorporated a lot more variety into her sound and image. Roman Holiday and Stupid Hoes (God forgive her) are still very rap oriented.

Starships is bad but still infectious. It will smash but I'm not sure about its longevity.I got sick of it fast.It may be one of those 'fast rise, fast fall' type of singles,we'll see.EW has some really good points here.

It's a good-feeling song, like "California Gurls", it'll be a huge hit this year but will be forgotten the next year.

I got into her from the Single Ladies Remix and really enjoyed how original and fresh she was. It's like now she's joined the "top table", she feels she can do whatever and she will sell regardless. By April, she may not have any stans left at all.
It's as if she's searching for acceptance from the Mean Girls.

It'll be a hit but is she content being the girl who releases hit singles that sound like everyone else's, to be perceived as a follower of trends, instead of the trend-setter she could have been? She seems so focused on the short-term (instant hits) instead of the long-term.

This may be exgerrated, but it's very true. Nicki is getting A LOT of bad press, which is usually good, but she's over-pushing it. Even in my school, a lot of people have become "disgusted" with her. I hope that "Starships" will redeem her.

This is exactly what i said when it came out last night. First listen, loved it. But by the third I was not only over it, but slightly annoyed by it.
If she wanted to be competitive in this genre she should have chosen a producer who would have delivered with a unique sound. Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, hell even working with Guetta again would have lended a fresher, non-stail sound production wise. RedOne outside of Gaga sucks.

She tried to be the "Weird Girl" (the same image Lady GaGa had back in 2009-10), but it failed. The difference between her & Lady GaGa is that back in 09, GaGa was intriguing and interesting and her costumes brought interest, and with the "Born This Way" era people became bored and lost interest, and with Nicki Minaj they started with the "bored and lost interest" instead of the "intriguing and interesting" stage, if that makes any sense.

This is a good point
-
On the point of the article, absolutely no lies. It's unfortunate, because that potential to change the game and cause a scene through what she does best - RAP - is all but voided at this point. She's become too try-hard, the comparisons are all over the place, and she's become a walking mockery of herself. A shame.

They're right to throw a few punches at Nicki for all but abandoning the skill that made her famous (a charismatic vocalist she is not), but I guess I'm not quite as outraged by this betrayal of her roots, because, well, it's been quite clear for months that the pop crossover was inevitable.
I'm more disgusted by the shameless, imitation of Dr. Luke's production style (and Luke is the MASTER of what he does - anyone trying to replicate is likely to fail) that RedOne employs on this track. He's become such a talentless hack.

The most frustrating thing about Minaj is that she is a ridiculously talented rapper, and she appears to be moving away from the skill that made her a big deal in the first place.
|
All of this.
But I think Starships is a decent song. I wish she released Roman Holiday instead, though.

I said all of this earlier this morning. She def didnt need a generic song like this but whats done is done unfortunaty. Oh Nicki. This album better have more Roman Holiday's than Starship's.

Oh come on let's not act like Nicki is suddenly talentless because she put out a couple pop records.
She still delivers kickass verses, I'm still jammin to Stupid Hoe and Roman in Moscow, and her verse on GMAYL was pretty decent.
Yeah, she did Turn Me On and Starships. But clearly that's what the public wants out of her, based on iTunes right now. So whatever, she can keep releasing her pop singles as long as she gives me the rap songs on her album.
Goddamn, you guys are acting like Roman Reloaded is gonna be Teenage Dream

Oh ****, they went in on her.
Poor Nicki. She's just trying to make her money the best way she knows how.
The backlash she's getting is so left-field though. She's just getting started on her 2nd album. I mean...
