Legend.
It feels weird calling her that... but she is.

I think she's too young in her career to be called a legend. I say this for artists who came the same time and after her. She's an icon for sure but a legend is a bit of a stretch at this point in time.

She is synonymous with pop music. If she is not a legend then NO ONE is.

She's a legend. Only legends can charge what she's charging for her shows and still sell them out.

Because frankly it's naïve to go grouping them together like that. Beyonce is making great strides musically, performance wise, and business wise. Them coming out around the same time doesn't automatically equate their legacies. It's convenient to do so, sure, but it's also dishonest.
Let Britney be judged on her own merits. This thread is about her. Don't bring Bey into this.

I have listed Brits merits. im just simply saying both are icons. I don't see anything wrong with that? are you trying to say Bey is higher? I never did.... sounds to me like someone is trying to start flamebait

only because of Controversy?
She changed pop music in the late 90's/early 2000's. She's a pop legend phenomenon and there hasn't even been any close to her status in the scene since then.
Yes, controversy is a huge part of why she's such a pop icon/legend but we're talking about her power here. Her going to gas station was the biggest headline of the day no matter what was going around the world but that's not the only reason why.
From her legendary VMA Performances, to her iconic outfits, to her legendary pop music videos which NO ONE in the game was ever to topped during her prime, her magazine covers, her album sales, her classic pop songs (BOMT, Toxic, Slave 4 U, Oops I Did It Again) her record breaking sales...
I can go on and on why she's a pop staple and a legend but you already know it, let's not act a fool here

She's an icon.
She's not respected enough to be a legend, nor has she had any lasting impact

If Demi, Selena G, Miley, Jordin Sparks, Lily Allen, Lana Del Rey, Adam Lambert ect.) call her a legend then she's a legend. These are music artists from a newer generation that acknowledge the fact that Britney is who she is and you can't really argue against it because they're influenced by her in a way.

She will never be a legend. She's a joke for the G.P, you Will never heard someone praise her in real life.... She's up there with the likes of Ashley Simpson and cie in terms of respect. But she will forever be the princess of pop thb. You can't deny her impact on (Mtv) the manufactured pop culture scene.

She's extremely and truly iconic. There's only a few artists on pop music that you can recognize by one image (ex. Michael's silhouette, even though that's obviously another level) and have so many memorable music videos and performances. By her recent interviews, you can tell that girl never thought she would get that big. I don't know about Legend anymore but on the long road, definitely. It's a shame her last record had such a bad commercial performance because stuff like that kinda taints her legacy. But they don't call her the Legendary Miss Britney Spears for nothing right? ( )

Because it looks like you're trying to piggyback off of Bey's status by linking the two. Britney had her time, her peak was in 99-04ish, but she fell off and is now being utterly dwarfed by a multitude of pop girls, as has been the case since roughly 2007. Comparing her to someone who is still killing the game and setting records is like apples and oranges, because one of the defining characteristics of a legendary artist (longevity) is only applicable to one. When you think of a legend, a la Michael, Madonna, Mariah, etc, they were able to achieve large scale success and stay relevant ~a decade and a half into their career. Brit's success was basically in a 5-6 year window. She's an icon, not a legend until she proves that she was more than a hot ticket for a few years.
She also lacks the respect from the general public or peers that other legends have (in response to someone saying Madonna doesn't have respect, she may not be respected as a vocalist, but she Is respected as pretty much creating the mold all current pop girls follow in terms of artistry, sex appeal, controversy and business savviness. That's why she is formally recognized as the Queen of Pop, whereas I haven't heard Brit's princess moniker outside of atrl since the early 2000s.)

I'm saying there's no reason to mention Bey period.

Shes definitely had impact and influence. ask the record labels of Xtina, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, Willa Ford, Avril, etc.
not only has she had many iconic pop cultures impact moments such as BOMT, OOPS, BOMT outfit, 2 diamond albums, Slave performance, The kiss, the breakdown, the iconic pepsi commercials, the comeback, the dolls, the valentines cards, the promotions, etc.
shes made lots of major influence on the pop world. including huge influences of our major pop artists today such as Gaga, Katy, Miley, Ke$ha, Selena, Demi, etc.
she definitely has the cred. though I do believe legend status doesn't come until years later, but she Is an icon with lots of impact.
