why does it matter? 1989 has sold more in the us than prism has worldwide. that alone is worth more than any amount of streaming.

"Wildest Dreams" is already Top 10 on iTunes in Australia and New Zealand, so I think it's safe to assume that it will do well... at least "Style" numbers. That should put Taylor at around 3.3B before the end of the year (surpassing Katy without Spotify). Plus there's the likelihood of a sixth single. It will be close, but I definitely think Taylor can do it even without Spotify.

It's a streaming debate. Spotify is a part of streaming. And it's not like people can't stream Taylor's music because she took it off from Spotify, it's available on YT/Vevo, so whoever wants to stream her songs is pretty much able to do it. It's a fair comparision and PRISM era has bigger streaming numbers than 1989 era so far. Deal with it!

And I'm pretty sure unless Wildes Dreams puts at least Bad Blood's numbers, PRISM era will reign supreme.

This is a really good point, honestly. Too bad it's not necessarily relevant to this discussion, but a good point regardless.

On topic: Katy has the edge for now, but I'm pretty sure Taylor will surpass her when everything's said and done just by looking at the amount of time it took their videos to get to the views they have now.

Its been proven that Taylor's VEVO views skyrocketed after the Spotify removal. Everyone but the Swifties (and Katy haters) acknowledge this fact.

Again Shake It Off is the only 1989 song that was on Spotify and there is a noticeable effect on it's Youtube views yes, but it's not that huge. You can look at the daily Youtube views yourself.

Having said that I still think it's fair to include Spotify for Prism in this comparison here. Streams are streams.

It is not a good point when both "Dark Horse" and "Roar" have sold over 10M copies WW and 'PRISM' has sold over 4M copies WW. Katy might not be moving as many albums as Taylor but to claim that hardly anyone is spending a cent on her is incorrect. Again, Taylor may be selling more per stream, but that doesn't mean Katy is struggling with sales. She's doing well. Taylor is doing extraordinarily well. Both are winners here, there's no need to put one in a negative light.

I haven't included any of Katy's Spotify streams for PRISM album tracks either, nor the VEVO uploads of Walking On Air and By The Grace Of God. I've tried to make this as fair as possible for both artists and only include the singles. The next update will most likely come sometime before the Wildest Dreams video is released.

There you go, it started doing 3M-4M daily after the Spotify publicity and it still kept doing 3M-4M daily even after the Blank Space hype if you're gonna use that. Also there's a reason why her entire discography now have higher views than before.

Again I know the daily views and there was an effect yes, but not a big effect and of course the Blank Space hype (and general album release hype) is mixed in there and not just for a couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure that SIO would have at least 950M views now on Vevo if it would still be on Spotify, but we will never know that for sure.

Yes there are multiple reasons for her catalog streaming. Pulling it off Spotify is part of that and creating new fans is also part of that.
