Favorite 15 Speak Now Tour Covers
Happy 22nd birthday, Taylor Swift!!
In 2011, Taylor Swift embarked on a 94 date world tour supporting her multi-platinum, entirely self-written third studio album, Speak Now. Ultimately grossing over $100 million dollars, the Speak Now Tour was known for its 2 hour long, Broadway-esque theatrics and spur-of-the-moment cover performances and appearances by guest artists. Taylor’s covers show her true scope as an artist; they range from country to pop to rock to singer-songwriter to hip hop to rap, and Taylor pulls them all off with passion and poise. I was inspired to make this list after seeing that
Razzle would be making a similar list… These are my 15 favorite cover performances from the 2011 Speak Now Tour.
It took a lot of work tracking these all down; you bitches better watch at least 2 each
(Trying to find videos with good audio quality wasn’t an easy task; I did the best I could)
15. I’m Yours (with Jason Mraz)
I'm Yours
It’s no small secret that Taylor LOVES this song; she loves it so much that she performed it every night of the Speak Now Tour as part of a ukulele medley with her song Fearless. The original artist, Jason Mraz appeared at one of Taylor’s LA shows to perform the song with her.
14. Cowboy Take Me Away/ Dancing In The Dark/ Living on a Prayer (originally by Dixie Chicks/ Bruce Springsteen/ Bon Jovi)
New Jersey Medley
This performance begins with the Dixie Chicks’
Cowboy Take Me Away, the first song Taylor ever learned on guitar; one of the members of the Dixie Chicks was in the audience as Taylor performed it. She then transitions to Bruce Springsteen’s
Dancing In The Dark. Bruce attended a later show in Taylor’s tour, playing this song backstage on Taylor’s guitar, which he then signed. Taylor finishes off her Ode To New Jersey Medley with Bon Jovi’s classic
Living On A Prayer.
13. Live Your Life (with T.I.)
Live Your Life
Taylor sang Rihanna’s part in this famous song, with TI joining her onstage just days after being released from prison. Taylor’s performance in this song is part of the reason why I’d love to see her collaborating with more rappers in the future.
12. How To Save A Life (originally by The Fray)
How To Save A Life
Taylor performed this cover of
How To Save A Life while one of The Fray’s band members was in the audience with his family.
11. Time of Your Life (originally by Green Day)
Time Of Your Life
Taylor covered part of Green Day’s famous song
Time of Your Life.
10. Big Star (with Kenny Chesney)
Big Star
Kenny Chesney’s hit single
Big Star seems to take on a new meaning sung onstage with Taylor.
09. Complicated (originally by Carolyn Dawn Johnson)
Complicated
Taylor covered Carolyn Dawn Johnson's
Complicated, a song I've been a fan of for years. On a different night of the tour, she also sang a bit of Avril Lavigne's
Complicated, which you can listen to here:

08. Breathless (originally by Better Than Ezra)
Breathless
Taylor once included a live cover of this song on a charity album, but this was her first time performing it in front of a full audience. The song suits her voice so well, and it's simply a beautiful cover.
07. Who Says (with Selena Gomez)
Who Says
Selena appeared at the very last show of Taylor’s tour, in Madison Square Garden. The audience screamed so loudly they completely overpowered both Selena and Taylor. At one point, Taylor and Selena let the audience sing a chorus by themselves. It’s beautiful hearing an arena-full of people singing this song.
06. Just To See You Smile (with Tim McGraw)
Just To See You Smile
The crowd went wild as Tim McGraw joined Taylor onstage to perform his song
Just To See You Smile. It makes perfect sense for the audience to react this way; the parents in the crowd love Tim McGraw, and all the younger fans know Tim because of Taylor’s debut single. Tim has been tied into Taylor’s career right from the start, and watching the two interact onstage gives some insight into the close relationship that they’ve developed since those days.
05. Drops of Jupiter (originally by Train)
Drops of Jupiter
This excellent cover of Train’s
Drops of Jupiter was included in the Speak Now Tour Live album’s tracklist. This particular video is popular because Taylor’s ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas was seen in the audience that night.
04. Cry Me A River (originally by Justin Timberlake)
Cry Me A River
Taylor covered Justin Timberlake's
Cry Me A River while in Memphis, and this video probably has the best audio of everything in the countdown.
03. Fire & Rain (with James Taylor)
Fire & Rain
The legendary James Taylor (Taylor’s namesake) was the final guest artist of the Speak Now Tour, and he joined Taylor onstage for a performance of his famous song
Fire & Rain. While many of Taylor’s younger fans may not be familiar with James Taylor, it’s been said that parents in the audience were in tears seeing him onstage.
Fire & Rain is incidentally one of the few James Taylor songs I’ve always known, so I was ecstatic that they performed this together.
02. Super Bass (with Nicki Minaj)
Super Bass
When Nicki Minaj left the VMAs earlier this year, she went right across the street to join Taylor performing
Super Bass; a song that Taylor has been stanning for since Pink Friday's release, to the point that Nicki credits Taylor with “starting this
Super Bass frenzy.” Taylor and Nicki later joined up at the AMAs together, where Taylor presented Nicki with Best Rap Album and Nicki
again thanked Taylor for
Super Bass’s success. Earlier this month, Taylor and Nicki were honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year, where they admitted they were considering a collaboration and Nicki said Taylor was like a sister to her. I personally wasn’t a fan of Nicki’s until I saw this performance, and now I’ve got my fingers crossed for that collaboration.
01. Dare You To Move (originally by Switchfoot)
Dare You To Move
A beautiful, beautiful cover of a beautiful, beautiful song I’d never heard before.
Honorable Mentions
What Hurts The Most (originally by Rascal Flatts)
What Hurts The Most
Taylor performed an incredible song by an intolerable country group, and she did it quite well.
Superman (originally by Taylor Swift)
Superman
Taylor's first and only live performance of Speak Now bonus track
Superman.
Untouchable (originally by Luna Halo/ Taylor Swift)
Untouchable
Untouchable was originally by the band Luna Halo; Taylor covered the song on Fearless Platinum Edition, and shares songwriting credit for her version. As far as I know, this was Taylor's first time performing the song live; when I found out on twitter, I flipped out.
Untouchable is second only to
Enchanted in the list of Taylor's most magical songs.
