Its just really sad to see this delusion and how people don't have sympathy for those victims of 9/11.

It's totally ludicrous to suggest that anyone who thinks religious freedom and local building laws should be respected doesn't have sympathy for the victims of 9/11. You can make yourself mad about this total non-issue all you want, but you shouldn't make false accusations about other people like that.

Well to be fair, you asked for our thoughts on the issue and we shared them. You opened your own can of worms by asking for our opinions, and thus implying that you were open to hearing from those who might disagree with you.

I'll say this, I do feel sorry for the victims of 9/11. But at the same time I believe about half of the people who are bitching about this are very extreme Christians or completely ignorant republicans who would still be bitching about the mosque even if 9/11 didn't happen.

Some people need to grow up. This is just proving that Americans now associate terrorists with the religion of Islam. They are in no way interconnected, it just happened that 9/11 was caused by RADICALISTS AND ZYGOTES. This is American, where everyone should have the right to build what they want, when they want as long as it doesn't break any rules.
Edit : American to America...

That makes sooo much sense when...
-over 70% of Americans oppose it
-a majority of Democrats oppose it
-close to 50% of Liberals oppose it
(All taken from CNN)

The last two points don't make sense. You say a majority of democrats oppose it. And a majority of democrats are liberals, which means a majority of liberals oppose it, not 50%

It's the news, they are always trying to make one side look better than the other. Even if it means bending the truth.

A majority of Democrats aren't liberals...and I got all that information from CNN, so argue with them if you think they're wrong.

I'd only appose it in wake of the possible threats and issues the buildings might endure from angry, illogical Americans.

This isn't about Religious Freedom or Building laws...this about RESPECT and SYMPATHY. In this situation, there is NONE. It is not difficult for this Mosque to be moved elsewhere, yet the organization REFUSES to do so and is set on that exact location.
I mean what is more important? Respecting the victims of 9/11 or fighting for Religious Freedom when the situation can simply be changed?

Fighting for religious freedom obviously. America was built because we wanted religious freedom.

I feel that this shouldn't be a problem, but 9/11 was less than 10 years ago. It's still a problem that faces families everyday that lost a loved one. If this was 2050, maybe it would be less of a concern. Right now it would be best if they just allowed the government to fund their mosque in a different location of the city. Is this fair? No. But when has the world ever been fair, honestly? So to answer the question, I shouldn't have to oppose it, but I do.
This bus ad is ridiculous and unnecessary though:

So its alright for you to say this about Americans, but if I said this about Muslims (which I wouldn't) I would have every single person here on my ass saying how terrible of a person I am.

Wait... It's 200 meters away??? That's actually A LOT of distance. It's like 100 Dennis Rodmans!!! I'd have more of a problem with it if they were about to build it right on Ground Zero, but 200 meters away, to me, does not make any sort of statement against America or about 9/11.
Ground Zero itself should be protected for as long as possible, to remind everyone of the horrible acts that took place on that day. That, however, does not mean that the whole 500-square-meter radius of where the attack took place is 'protected' soil. And if it WERE to be protected, then it should be protected against everything: commercial, residential, and religious buildings, among others. I bet people wouldn't be throwing a fit if it were a Christian church or a synagogue they were trying to build there (and I say this as a very practicing Catholic).
The fact of the matter is that until someone can prove to me that the place would definitely wind up becoming a breeding-ground for terrorists, then I don't have a problem with the mosque being built there because it's all speculation. Furthermore, the "arguments" used against the mosque are actually more of an affront to America and to all the people who died in 9/11 than the mosque, because they prove that even after all the carnage of 9/11 people in this country have learned nothing about not making generalizations about others based on their religion, ethnicity, etc.--much like the terrorists that day believed in generalizations about all Americans which allowed them to kill so many people with little or no remorse.

They plan on opening the Mosque/Cultural Center on 9/11/11, on the 10th Anniversary of the attacks. How is this not intentional and provocative?? Wake up people!

When you put it that way, I have to do a full 180. I can't support something that is begging for talk like this. Just no, why on that date?

There has been no official statement that the Mosque will open on 9/11/11. That is a rumor being spread by Glenn Beck and company in order to rile people up.
