Taylor knew full well that the media would jump on to the song and her statement would spark hundreds of gossip articles. If she really didn't approve of the media pitting artists against eachother, she wouldn't have mentioned that the song was about a female artist and she'd have just said it's about a friendship gone wrong or something. She knew exactly what she was doing, and by doing it she knew she'd be sparking and fuelling a "feud" within the media, but she did it anyway for publicity.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it shameful. A little hypocritical, yeah. But every pop star makes hypocritical statements at times because the world is always watching and listening. It's very easy to take one sentence out of context and say "AHA! But you said THIS two weeks ago!!!"

Every pop star has those moments. I can see/understand both sides of the argument. She doesn't see herself as pinning herself against Katy Perry because she's not the one doing it (and it hasn't really started yet because the song hasn't come out) - but she should have the wisdom and foresight to realise that the media/GP will do it as soon as the song comes out.
