Intersex is a group of conditions where there is a discrepancy between the external genitals and the internal genitals (the testes and ovaries).

I have met the butchest of the butchest lesbians, and if I were to call them a he, they would have beat my ass. People say he and she because of sex. If someone is obviously transgender and trying to change their physical sex because of gender dysphoria, then I believe it is appropriate to label them as the sex/gender they wish to identify as.
Transgender should be respected entirely differently. It is for people suffering from gender dysphoria. These Tumblr Rue's are just making it a joke.

You can express elements of masculinity and femininity whether your sex is male or female. If we were to apply gender like Rue is doing, most of ATRL would be an it. When I say he or she I'm referring to biology. However, if the person has gender dysphoria I will call them by the gender they wish to identify as because that's a serious issue, but this is just pushing it.

No, you're not referring to the sex, you're referring to the person, if a person IDs and goes by something else, you should use their pronouns. There's not reason why, in a conversation, to refer to a persons sex, you're referring to that person and I don't call someone a "he" because I think they have a penis, I do it because that person is known to me as a male, or as someone who wants to be referred to as a "he". It's arbitrary and harmful to assign roles, labels, expectations, and to base our society around things certain combinations of things like genitalia, hormones, chromosomal make-up (which contrary to popular 8th grade biology leads most to believe, it's cut and dry as XY AND XX), etc. Not only does it lead to discrimination against transgender people, but it also is very harmful to intersex people.

I've heard of intersex people being ID'd literally by the length of their genitalia. There's a certain scale that doctors use and it can lead to thing's like genital mutilation.

Lol please. There are regions untouched by colonialism and still follow that binary. So over this "excuse" for modern day homophobia, misogyny, transphobia. "It was the whites the people doing it now are clueless and can't think for themselves so they follow colonial beliefs pushed on them!!"

Ok, I think there's nothing wrong on being a woman, we just need equality but if that's how she feels and how she wants to be defined then go girl
Edit: I mean go Amandla

That means the same thing as Intersex
From the Intersex Society of North America:
Quote:
The word "hermaphrodite" is a stigmatizing and misleading word.
There is growing momentum to eliminate the word "hermaphrodite"
from medical literature and to use the word "intersex" in its
place. While some intersex people do reclaim the word "hermaphrodite"
with pride to reference themselves (like words such as "****"
and "queer" have been reclaimed by LGBT people), it should be
generally avoided except under specific circumstances.
|
Quote:
The word "hermaphrodite" implies that a person is born with
two sets of genitals -- one male and one female -- and this is something
that cannot occur.
The qualifiers "male" and "female," because they
are based only upon the gonadal histology, frequently contradict the sex
of assignment, and thus are very misleading and disturbing for parents and
patients.

So it's not the presence of both sets of genitalia

Intersex people deserve to be labeled as they wish. The issue of intersex is obviously very complicated and it's unfortunately even more challenging because they shouldn't have to tell everyone that they're intersex. These tumblr people are not intersex though, trust me. Maybe a few, but the overwhelming majority are not.

Good for Amandla!
Us cis people are really out of the loop, cause I have no idea what non-gender feels like. Sometimes I look and feel masculine and other days I wanna be Sailor Moon, but I wouldn't call myself a-gender or non-gender, I just have different moods.

What you're describing are people who have gender dysphoria and they should be respected as the gender they wish. But these tumblr people are taking it too far, trying to claim another gender simply because they exhibit a balance of masculinity and feminity. They have it all confused.

This is so problematic. She's a girl, just because she doesn't want to be feminine or whatever doesn't mean she can't identify as a girl. I don't really get any of this but maybe I'm just uncultured and uneducated.

You're making it out to be as though certain individuals need to qualify for the basic respect to be identified as they wish. Intersex people deserve it, so others must not deserve it, right?
