Can't wait for this! Although our musical taste is very different, I expect some amazing songs to be high on your list! For example, "Happy Pills", "Somebody That I Used to Know", etc.
I'm honestly not the closest fan of Train but once in a blue moon they release a song that gets to me. This song is not as good as their lead single but I can make do with it, I love the lyrics and it works just fine as a duet. I hated 50WTSG so this is an improvement.
Saving Abel "Bringing Down The Giant"
I remember I used to love this band's debut single "Addicted" back in 2008. Sadly they quickly became a rather forgotten one hit wonder. I loved this song but the anti-bullying rock music videos are so worn out and overused by now.
The Cab "La La"
If we were in 2010 I'm sure this song would've been top 50. However, despite how catchy this song is, I'm kinda over this type of pop/rock bands by now. I feel like they're always releasing generic bland stuff. Anyway, this song deserved a mention at least.
Paloma Faith "Picking Up The Pieces"
This girl is severely underrated. Even though she's not the prettiest girl out there, she has amazing vocals and a very versatile repertory. Sadly she lacks something, the general public could easily mistake her for Marina, Lana del Rey, Florence and other overrated girls like them.
Nicki Minaj "Pound The Alarm"
I can't help liking a couple of Nicki's songs even though I accept her rapping makes absolutely no sense and her attitude is a disaster. Mostly as a guilty pleasure mention, Pound The Alarm is basically Starships part II which was Super Bass part II.
Gotye "Eyes Wide Open"
One of the most interesting new artists of this year. Even though he's not particularly new. I love Gotye's ability to turn a low-budget music video into a very artistic form of expression. I wish he wasn't doomed to become a one-hit wonder.
Andy Grammer "Miss Me"
A very mellow song. Andy might not be very successful but he's very talented. I love the concept of this music video and I definitely expect it to grow on me with time. It could still chart in next year's countdown.
Drake feat. Rihanna "Take Care"
I have a very bad concept of mainstream rap music. This song is a very rare exception. I actually like the beat and the lyrics and I could stand to keep it in my playlists. Just so you know this is Rihanna's only appearance so don't expect to see her again anytime soon.
Frank Ocean "Thinking Bout You"
One of the most overrated new acts of this year. However, this one is actually talented. I feel bad for the true R&B fans who've had to stand and watch their favorite genre slowly dying. I hope this guy actually does something right for it. He definitely has the vocals.
Nickelback "Trying Not To Love You"
When I first watched this video I thought it wasn't official. I thought some random Youtube user had uploaded a rather cute fan made version. But then I saw I was wrong. It wrecked the meaning of this song and it made it look like a very corny joke. I still like the song though.
Little Big Town "Tornado"
This band is way more than just the typical country group. They have a very interesting sound very different from pretty much anything else I heard in country music this year. This wasn't as infectious as Pontoon but I still like the song and I love the music video.
Of Monsters And Men "Mountain Sound"
Indie/folk bands are slowly taking over the world starting this year. I'm so glad groups like this one are finally having a chance to be widely known by the general public. Who would've imagined an Islandic folk group like OMAM could go around the world? I loved this song I hope their album is just as good.
Luke Bryan "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye"
One of my favorite country singers this year. I've been catching myself humming this song lately. It made me listen to his whole album and I really liked it. I wish some of his lyrics weren't so sexual though.
Norah Jones "Miriam"
To those of you who think Norah Jones' music is boring you should really take a look at her lyrics before judging. She's so deep, so talented and so classy. This song might aswell be one of the scariest songs I've heard this year. Only Norah could be talking about commiting murder and make it sound classy.
K'naan feat. Nelly Furtado "Is Anybody Out There?"
I swear this song came so close to debut in my countdown for like 5 consecutive weeks and always got snubbed by a better song. I like the message written in the lyrics even though I usually dislike K'naan's music. Ironically this was Nelly Furtado's most successful single this year...
