Sweety, Amy did do it first. Adele admitted to this, she said if it wasnt for Amy, she probably wouldnt have been able to make it into the mainstream. Adeles not like duffy, kate nash or lily allen music wise in the slightest. Amy paved a way for adele in terms of her musical style and genre. She made it easier for adele to ease her way into the industry because they made similar music.
I didn't put Beyonce on the list cause she hasn't had a hit this era, and even though the album is selling, its numbers aren't still impressive.
GaGa
Katy
Rihanna
ADELE
Britney
Are owning the charts in general at the moment. Some have lower single sales, others have lower album sales, but those 5 are the most balanced when it comes to success right now.

Amy certainly did help bring that genre of music back into the mainstream eye, but she didn't "do it first". That's all I'm saying.
See, I like this [despite not really knowing much of Ellie's music] because they're all game changers.
Robyn is a champion for independent pop. Katy B is the true bringer of dubstep to the mainstream [don't try to tell me Britney is; we all have receipts, thank you]. Bjork is god in human form. Adele brought soul back when Amy was on the backburner and Autotune was making dumb blonde bitches famous.
I don't consider her a legendary talent musically. And she certainly hasn't been a game changer in a while, in my eyes. {Stans, calm the eff down before you start }
Robyn - you have to look deeper than the top 40 to see who's really doing anything musically.

In relation to U.K. artists she did in my opinion, not the genre as a whole. Think about it, what other female U.K. artist was making the type of music Amy was before Amy came into mainstream?
