I love Karen O but I disagree. Gaga has referenced Hitchcock, Kubrik, Warhol etc., not just old artists. She must of overlooked that.

I'm not dismissing anything. I know that Gaga is referential. She has many icons, and she actually gives credit to her influences. However, I refuse to accept the statement that "she's not original enough." She takes way more risks than any of her pop star contemporaries could ever dream of.

Exactly my point. Gaga references pop stars, pop culture, and fame in general. She takes influence from the whole ideology of fame, and how the public reacts to different aspects of it.

Maybe other people disagree and thing her other material is good as well - did you ever consider that for just a moment?

Either way, the (subjective) quality of her music, the hype behind it, and the attitude of her fans has nothing to do with whether or not she is referential.

... proved what? That Tilda Swinton did that same installation almost 20 years ago? Or that Marina Abramovic did similar performances also almost 20 years ago? Or maybe Taras Polataiko's installation just last year?
