BTW was certainly personal w/ a strong message, but even more of the songs on ARTPOP are personal and Gaga talks about herself more than ever. It's the perfect follow up to BTW. She delves into her vulnerabilities/weaknesses and her addictions/desires, her experiences -- she makes it a point to be completely open and honest. It's kind of ironic and sad that some of her fans would leave her in this time especially.
Just go watch the first few minutes of the G.U.Y video. The message is pretty clear.
People call ARTPOP more "out there" but Gaga still retains her artistic creativity and true meaningfulness which is obviously something rare when
most of what's on the radio is lacking that creativity. I'm also not surprised at all that she doesn't like it when her ideas are taken and incorporated into that more "generic" kind of pop music. Generic in her eyes, at least.
