I think I literally did send on the deadline.
I was unimpressed with a few entries, but a few I really loved. I think the judges are on the same wave-length as me too. I hope so.

ATRL's Next Top Member Cycle 13 | EP4: Judges Comments!

This was a standard entry elevated by your examples. It’s an interesting state in the game when being one of the only ones to use a traditional GIF makes you seem outdated instead of unique. This GIF isn’t anything super exciting, and I could see it being a top 20 hit amongst certain fanbases. When I image searched it on ATRL, it popped up in the Kylie base a few times, so thank Cupid for supporting you since he’s the only one in there I think. Anyways, I’m not wowed by this entry. But I don’t dislike it. Safe fare.
Jake
No shade, I wasn’t expecting an entry this good from you. But then, you’ve always been back and forth in my rankings. I had you #2 overall last week and dead last the week before, but let me just say that, this challenge, you are definitely closer to the former than the latter. This is a great little smiley that seems to fit right in with the ATRL family, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it appear in the future. Your examples were cute, too. Good job.
Sam
#Pray4Sam after reading this entry. I commented in your thread so I could view the reply list, and it seems only 2 members aside from yourself posted more than once. This trend doesn’t have staying power because it’s nothing new. People have been complaining about the server since the beginning of time when Cher created the earth and ATRL. I alluded to some members being scored highly by some judges and then not seeing that in the final rankings, but lemme drop names: I think you should’ve won last week. And it’s a pity you didn’t, because wins are a great help when you’re up for elimination.
Jezang
I don’t know why the other contestants don’t like this. It fits your brand (in a weird, Cthulhu way) and it’s nice as a random smiley to add to everything. It reminds me a lot of Jax’s smiley from last cycle. It’s cute and unique. Your examples are boring, but that’s because you used real members’ posts. Overall, cohesive and fun. Do I see it catching on? Not particularly, but hey, even has its place.
Super
Hmm. Hmmm……HRRmHmMmmmm. I really don’t know how I’m feeling about this one. I either love it or despise it. Maybe it’s the confetti he throws? I never had friends to come to my birthday parties, so I’m probably projecting. I could see this being incorrectly used by newer members for a while, but I think the classical ATRLers would catch on to it over time. It seems like a sleeper hit smiley, but I don't know that a game as fast-paced as this has time to wait for you to catch up.
Lovesong
I haven’t seen this small baby before on ATRL. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, yes, but not on ATRL.I think this is arguably the best PNG submitted, though I sort of wish you had it transparent so we could resize just the baby itself. Your examples were succinct and good, which seems to be a recurring trend for you. Coming from bottom two last week to this is pretty impressive. It’s not the frontrunner for the win or anything, but upper middle of the pack, for sure.
Era
By far the most creative entry I’ve seen in many, many cycles of these challenges. That alone gets you massive kudos. I don’t really see the applicability of these to most posts, but I see them becoming popular in some way. I think they would make really terrifying avatars. I can already imagine Prince High with that Gaga one, creepy. While I myself can’t really figure out what direction I see these taking off in, I think they will. A genre-defying hit. I took off two points for saying “amazeballs”, though. Love yourself.
Funky
Screaming @ your example of Sub using Kitt’s linking back to an ACTUAL post of Sub using Buddy’s entry. These aren’t a trend so much as an inside joke, but I would like to think they would become popular. I could really see them taking off in the Rihanna base, but I don’t know anything about the Rihanna base since I don’t frequent that part of town too often. They were very funny, of course, but it almost felt like pandering to the panel a biT. Which sounds weird because you’re making fun of us. Regardless, I think your entry is extremely funny and highly creative. I wouldn’t ever use one as an avatar or a reaction image, but there are enough members with bad taste to keep this alive for quite a while (@Matty).
Matty's comment to Citrus: *towards that last sentence* Bitch
Buddy
This is cute, and you’re one of the pioneers of PNGs/JPEGs, so I’m glad your entry lives up to your reputation. The Random Thoughts examples aren’t really that impressive because even my God-awful avatars have been reused for a page and a half. However, your other examples were all on point. I’m trying to pinpoint why exactly I feel let down, but I think that’s just because I’ve seen you use so many great reaction images that the consistency gets a little boring. Welcome to being a frontrunner.
Bomb
The shot at the judges made me laugh, but the other examples were just sort of plain. They were feisty, I guess, but generic. This entry is most comparable to Buddy’s, which is unfortunate because his is better. The PNG is a little too small for my taste, but I have to give you credit because I have indeed seen this in a few places around ATRL before reading the entries. I don’t think it’ll have lasting power, but I’ve been wrong many times before.
T-Swizz
Since when did Marcia look like Iggy? A mess. I’m disappointed by this entry, because you’ve provided some of my favorites of the past few challenges (and, in one case, my absolute favorite). You sought to expand upon the “Sure Jan” GIF, to market Marcia herself, but you didn’t use the right GIFs to do so. The entry felt like reading off-brand versions of the original. What frustrates me is that this was SO close to being a great entry. What you should’ve done is gotten like 3 GIFs and 2 PNGs from different characters on the show, and then made the Brady Bunch as a whole your trend. That would’ve been a great entry. This, however, is not good.

The proliferation of GIFs on this forum makes it difficult for any to truly take off anymore, but this one is humorous and versatile enough that I could see it making some impact. It's exactly the kind of image that, once used in a thread, members might pick up and throw back at each other for a while in heated exchanges. (Plus, drag queens haven't really been big on ATRL yet; perhaps it's time?) Your examples are genuinely hilarious. Thanks for giving me a laugh.
JakeKills
I'm not generally inclined toward smileys, but you've made a great selection here. It's totally relevant to the types of discussions we have on the forum, while also filling a unique niche. From your examples, I can see how it might become overused and redundant, but the best would probably be able to wield it in funny and unexpected ways. Naming it for MaRy is an inspired touch—a nice ATRL in-joke that I imagine would make most members want to use it more.
Sam
Points for going out into the forum and actually trying to make your trend happen. Unfortunately, it seems to have flopped harder than the "Birthday" music video. The thread barely made it to a third page, and I don't see anybody else wearing the avatar or adopting the hashtag. (If I'm wrong about that, you should have included some examples.) It's not that it was a bad idea, but maybe this required more of an active effort to get others to join you. Or perhaps it was just too similar to everyone's current favorite ATRL meme to stand on its own. As M A R C noted in the thread: "#Pray4R8's impact is real." I doubt that was the ambivalent reaction you were hoping for.
Jezang
There's a contestant every cycle who tries to replace the "eli" smiley. I totally understand the inclination, given that ATRLers love nothing more than being shady. But why fix something that ain't broken? While your octopus is cute, I don't see anything here, and no specific scenarios, that demand you use it instead. I could be wrong; it's been so long since we've changed the smileys that members could be salivating for new modes of pixelated expression. Yet it's hard to imagine something so unspecific becoming the site's next blockbuster.
Superpower
There's certainly no confusion here; it would be easy for members to find opportunities to use the smiley you've chosen. The question is whether this would be the image they turn to in those moments of celebration. Despite the comparative ease of using smileys, GIFs long ago supplanted them as our primary mode of visual communication. In an earlier incarnation of ATRL, I could picture this becoming a big hit; now, I expect most members would instead turn to the bigger punchline of a GIF. Nevertheless, you have some solid examples that convince me there could still be a place for it on the site.
lovesong
Those kids with style got me giggling before I'd even had a proper chance to read your entry. The unexpected and ridiculous and effeminate all collide into something so perfectly ATRL. I can see members quickly latching onto these images—and then finding their own, turning it into a proper trend, rather than just a picture that got popular. Undoubtedly, many would use them to poor effect; anything this funny on its own can become deathly unamusing in the wrong context. But that's not your problem. Nice job finding something outside the box yet completely in the spirit of the forum.
Era
You definitely win for the most creative entry this week. I'm not sure what inspired the idea of bobbleheads, but it's totally fresh and you pulled it off so well. I love the aesthetic, which has an irreverent humor about it that feels well-suited to ATRL. My only qualm is I have absolutely no clue when a member might actually use one of these. Your weak examples don't convince me that there is a place for them on the forum. So, fantastic concept? Absolutely. ATRL trend? Maybe not.
FunkyDinevo
Hmm. I'm almost at a loss for what to make of this. It's very possibly the oddest thing I've seen in my several cycles as a judge on ANTM. I have to give you credit for keeping true to yourself; there's an outrageousness to the trend that feels in line with what I've seen from you so far in this competition, and it seems like something only you could come up with. Plus, there are a couple of very good jokes among the example avatars you made. But you had to know that you were submitting an idea no one on the forum was ever going to get on board with. Right?
Buddy!
I can't say I'm particularly inspired by this selection—I find it too generic and vague as a reaction image to leave much of an impression—but you proved me wrong with receipt after receipt after receipt showing its adoption around the forum. Kudos to you for making the most out of this challenge; you actually trended your trend. Whether it lasts or it's over by the time I send in my comments, you proved your influence this week, and a great deal more Top Member potential.
A Bomb
So I guess PNGs are the thing now. (Bey_Rih her influence is real! Why was she such an ANTM flop?) This is a cute little image that you've chosen, and I can see members hopping on it, at least for a quick moment. In fact, I could have sworn I did see it used somewhere around the forum in the past few days. If it really was spreading, it would have helped your entry to find those posts and include them, because your examples are merely serviceable.
T-Swizz
You thought bigger here about the concept of a trend, which I like. On rare occasion, whole GIF sets have become popular on ATRL (e.g. the lady who vlogged in the Apple store). With "Sure, Jan." one of the hottest reactions on the forum right now, Marcia seems perfectly poised to explode to that next level and become a whole vernacular. But that's also my problem with your entry—it draws so heavily from something that is already a meme, both here and on the Internet more broadly. If Marcia were to trend on ATRL, how much could you claim the success for yourself?

Formatting kind of messed up, oop. The gif itself though, I really like it. There are similar sort of gifs out there, but none that I can think of from the top of my head that have really taken off. As for it's ability to trend, i'm not too sure. I haven't seen it used around, I think the problem might be that people won't know who is in the gif. I think it has potential though. The examples were cute too.
JakeKills
I actually really like this smiley. It should definitely be added to the list because it's more relevant and useful than like 80% of the current ones. I could see this potentially taking off as trend if used in a hit thread. I think it just needs to get posted a few times and people will catch on to it. There isn't really anything similar to it smiley wise and I don't see many psychic style gifs around either. There was too many examples though, like I kind of got the picture half way through but it kept going hihi.
Sam
So it's basically a rip-off from the Pray for R8 trend. Also a mess at you posting this literally on the same day the server got fixed, so you had to change the title to 522. Mess. I can see where you were going with this idea, but it just seems reductive. There weren't really any examples either because nobody's really joined in with avis or anything.
Jezang Looz
I just don't get it. It's an octopus smiley. How is it gonna trend? What does it mean? Is this how ARTPOP feels? The examples literally made no sense to me. I don't even find the smiley cute. This was all kinds of wrong babe.
Superpower
It's a cute smiley, but it's so basic. It's basically just another celebration smiley. I feel like we already have enough of them. The examples were okay. The whole entry just seems so basic and lazy to me though. You've crashed from the high's of last round, pick yourself back up boo.
lovesong
Lol that kids really cute, bless. It's a nice reaction jpg/png, but I don't see it taking off. It's not unique enough and it doesn't stand out. I really like the idea behind the trend, but the actual picture itself was a small let down. So i'm torn because I like the idea just not the execution of it.
Era
I have to admit when I first saw a bobblehead pop up on ATRL I was thinking hmm.. could this be someone's ANTM trend? I wasn't really sure I just thought oh random, a pop-girl bobblehead? But then I noticed more and more versions popping up and I started to like it more. I'm glad you didn't just do 1 pop girl as I thought it was weird, but seeing a whole collection... it's unique and fabulous. They've also already taken off across ATRL! My only problem is, where is the Kylie bobblehead? Where is the Cher bobblehead? Kiss some judges butt (joking of course.... actually kind of not.. I want you to make a Kylie one)
FunkyDinevo
As messy as this entry is, I actually kind of love the idea behind it. The badgalriri picture is lowkey iconic. I love the idea of members creating their own and using them. I feel like maybe Matty inspired this idea so he deserves some of the credit though, after making it his avi. I wish you would have made more celebrity editions, and then maybe actually used them around the forum or got other members to change their avis. It has potential to trend, you just need to promote. (p.s - that doesn't look like me)
Buddy!
Another iconic reaction pic. This has already been taking off across the forum tbh. I love the pose she's doing, I love the whole feel of the pic and it's very useable. I can definitely see this being one of the more long-lasting trends. I would have maybe liked some of the quotes actually posted within the entry, not all of them of course, just one or two.
A Bomb
Cute presentation! Okay so, to start with the picture is just too small. When using a reaction pic you need to be able to clearly see the reaction on the persons face! She looks like she's doing a pretty funny pose that potentially could trend. Unfortunately I can't really tell because of the size.
T-Swizz
Well, like I mentioned in the thread... These gifs were already a trend like a year ago. In fact I remember even making spin-offs of these gifs but changing the font "Nice try JustLuke" lowkey trended in Random Thoughts for like a month. The actual gifs themselves are extremely useable, I love them all. The only problem I have is that it's reductive to recycle something which already trended.

I honestly really love this! I feel like the examples are slightly hit and miss, but I get the overview of the gif and love the action for it. It can play for a multitude of ideas and I could see this really taking off.
The examples… I need to log off and get me some air.

JakeKills
I do like the smiley and think it’s nice. Your gifs kind of worked for me, but other times it just made the entire post awkward. Like I do agree that a smiley like this is needed for the system because people always like to make farfetched predictions for artists, but for some reason the potential I see in the smiley just didn’t correspond with the examples you gave somehow. Points for the actual smiley, but a few negatives for some of the examples.
I predict a possible medium tier call out
Sam
It was cute for PrayFor#R8, but honestly this kind of trend is getting annoying. When ATRL already bitches about the servers no matter what is done to try to fix it or get us to the point for an update, people still come with complaints and the prayforATRL stuff. The whole over capacity gifs was a lot better trend this to be honest.
#PrayForSam
Jezang
Awe, it reminds me of the dancing animal creatures from plug.dj. So cute. Unfortunately for you that is where my love for this smiley ends. Is it cute? Yes. Is it unique? Yes. However, I could easily see much better smileys or even gifs to use in those posts that would make 2x/3x better than with this smiley.
How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh? Ten-tickles.
Superpower
I’m starting to notice a little trend. You with this like colorful star theme. It’s nice and really catching on to be noticeable. As for your smiley, I do like it. It’s simple, effective, and can/will be used. My only thing is, somewhat kind of positive/negative point here, it’s just another version of . It could fit more of what ATRL is though; #GayPride. It’s nice. I’m not wowed or impressed, but I could see it making a little trend.
“Celebrate good times, c’mon”
Lovesong
I get the point and I see the potential, but I think that bonus jpeg you posted made a lot more impact than one that you actually submitted and used for the majority of your examples. Why you didn’t use that instead I don’t know? Then, people have said that that jpeg had already been a trend on ATRL before and people were using it. I’m sometimes out of date on ATRL, being honest here, but I’m usually on and browsing ATRL everyday; I have not seen this kind of jpeg trend at all.
*sassy pose here*
Era
When I first saw this as your trend, I got worried. I was like how are these things going to trend and who has the time, besides you, to actually make them to use? However, the more I saw them being used on the forum and just re-reading your entry. I’ve grown to love them! The amount of creativity to actually think of something like this just deserves to be applauded for. It’s something new and different for ATRL, so of course it’s going to make an impact and get people talking. Good for you!
Bobble on wit yo bad self.

Funky
I honestly think this would have trended a lot better and got a much better reception if it was done during when Rihanna was heavily using these cartoon drawings. It’s a good idea and would make a good trend, as they are funny and shady, but I just think they are a little late to the game.
I’m still mad you haven’t made me a new one for this challenge.

Buddy
Isn’t there/wasn’t there a member by this name and has tried to get her to trend? Are you trying to take that person’s shine away from them Buddy ol’ pal?

I digress. I actually think it’s quite funny and useful. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but it was the first thing from the entries I used in a post. It spoke to me then and it still speaks to me now. I think it could trend and works well in posts for a shady/questionable aspect.
A Bomb
It’s shady and cute, I actually really like it… But why is it some damn small!? I honestly think it would have more impact had it been bigger. People on ATRL already do not have very good eye sight, so people may not be able to tell it’s a woman with a bottle and a glass of champagne ready to cheers to anything and everything that will come her way. So much potential to be a trend, but the size just totally downgrades it for me.
Cheers to the freakin’ weekend doe

T-Swizz
The Marcia gifs are really good! Your examples were hit and miss. There were a few that were spot on that it had me laughing out loud. However, this is pretty much already a trend. I understand you are trying to take the ‘Sure, Jan’ gif and make it more of a popularity around Marcia’s gestures, but ultimately it’s just more of a broad ‘Sure, Jan’ that is already a trend. I see what you were trying to do, but I was hoping to find a next trend; not a continuation.
