It's a lot more than that though. They have routines to remember and they gotta be quick on their feet with the jokes and the performances. They have to have excellent timing and an "it" factor to make it. Plus, performing in a hot, sweaty club and entertaining drunk people that may or may not be judgmental af has gotta be intimidating.
It requires rehearsals, promotions, performances, putting on make-up and costume every time they perform, competing with other queens for gigs, and being able to handle rejection. It's not your typical 9 to 5, but it's not supposed to be anyway.
I don't understand the comparison to dressing up as Native American. What they do isn't harming anyone - in fact, I find what they do very joyous and light-hearted.
