I know I'm looking ignorant this time, but this is the first time that I heard the term "Trip Hop"
What's the "superior" Trip Hop act? I have no idea
Well it's sort of Downtempo mixed with hip hop beats and sometimes it can sound like it has lounge music influences. It can be a super vague term though.

The xx
The xx are a Mercury Prize-winning trio formed in 2005 in London, United Kingdom and signed to Young Turks. The band members are Romy Madley Croft (vocals, lead guitar), Oliver Sim (vocals, bass guitar), and Jamie Smith, known as Jamie xx (beats, MPC sampler). Second guitarist and keyboardist Baria Qureshi was dropped from the band mid-tour in 2009. The reasons behind her ousting remain unclear.

Danity Kane was an American R&B and Pop girl group signed to Bad Boy Records, first established in 2005. Formed on the third installment of MTV’s Making the Band reality television series, the group went on to sell two platinum albums and be widely successful. After numerous conflicts the group officially disbanded in 2009. Each member’s termination from Bad Boy was shown on seasons of Making The Band 4. The original lineup included Aubrey O’Day, Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, Dawn Richard, and Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgette.
