Kick is the sixth studio album by the Australian rock band INXS, released in 1987 by WEA in Australia, Atlantic Records in the United States and Phonogram Records in the United Kingdom. As the band's most successful studio album, it is certified six times platinum by the RIAA, and spawned four US top 10 singles, "New Sensation", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Devil Inside" and "Need You Tonight", the latter of which reached the top of the Billboard singles charts. At the 1988 MTV Video Music Awards, the band took home five Moonmen for the "Need You Tonight"/"Mediate" video.
I'm listening to a couple songs from this and haven't heard them before, and for some reason I thought I knew more of their songs. Anyway I might have to check more of their material out.
Master of Puppets is the third studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on February 24, 1986, by Asylum Records and was the band's last album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash in Sweden while touring to promote the album. The album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was the first thrash metal album to be certified platinum, and on June 9, 2003, it was certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), having shipped six million copies in the United States.
Yeah I've heard some songs from this and it solidifies to me that Metallica really isn't my "thing." I understand this is considered a landmark record though so I don't mind it being on here at all. It's also the first album on here with 4 voters.
Although the album did not perform as well as Private Dancer and Break Every Rule in the U.S., it was a worldwide hit, selling over 6 million copies. In Europe, six of the album's tracks became hit singles; "The Best" (UK #5), "Steamy Windows" (UK #13), "I Don't Wanna Lose You" (UK #8), "Foreign Affair" (Poland #7), "Look Me In The Heart" (U.S. AC #4 & UK #31) and "Be Tender With Me Baby" (UK #28).
While the album failed to crack the top 30 of the U.S. Billboard 200, Foreign Affair entered the UK album chart at #1 (Turner's first album to do so there) and went on to sell over 1.5 million copies in the UK. The album reached number one in numerous countries including Germany (4 weeks) and topped the overall European Chart for 4 weeks.
I'm only really familiar with Tina's singles, not her albums. I definitely understand why this is the lower one of her successful 80s albums though.
Touch is the third studio album by the British new wave duo Eurythmics, released on 26 November 1983. The album was the duo's first UK number-one album, and also reached the top 10 in the US. It has since been certified Platinum in the US and Silver in the UK. It was rated #500 on Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2012, the album jumped to #492 on a revised list.
I love the album cover to this, it's very iconic. I also like all the songs from it that I've heard but the only Eurythmics album I've heard in full is In the Garden (I've heard multiple Annie albums though).
Actually is not much different from Pet Shop Boys' first album, Please, in terms of musical style, although production values are noticeably higher.
Actually spawned four UK Top 10 singles: the number one lead-off single "It's a Sin", "Rent", "What Have I Done to Deserve This?", a duet with fellow Parlophone artist Dusty Springfield which peaked at #2 in both the UK and US and led to a major resurgence of interest in Springfield's earlier work; and the duo scored another UK number one in April 1988 with a remixed version of the album's fourth and last single, "Heart".
Pet Shop Boys are that band that I am almost 100% certain I'd love if I listened to their material but for some reason I never have.
