The National Anthem was all it needed to be. If many people didn't like the Grammy's tribute performance it wasn't her fault, I don't think she had much creative control over it and she still sang and performed well. The Oscars (TIHTY) had some shaky vocals and maybe was a little too simple and corny, but her emotion during that performance was incredible and that alone saved the performance.
I think me and others are really glad, because if there's something that Gaga can't really screw up is performances. She has showed that when she rehearses a lot (think 2013 VMAs, 2015 Oscars) she nails it in ways only a few current artists could. Maybe in terms of relevance Gaga wasn't the right pick, or the one that will appeal to a broad audience, but you can bet the performance is going to be amazing and hit all the right spots.
