April 17th - April 23rd, 2009
When was the last time Britney Spears hit #1, but only stayed there for a week? You'd have to go 10 years back to when her debut single,
Baby One More Time spent a sole week at the pinnacle, and now
If U Seek Amy surrenders the crown to none other than
Franz Ferdinand after just one week.
No You Girls is their first #1 and by far their biggest hit to date on the chart, eclipsing the #2 peak of
Ulysses from earlier this year. Hot on their Glasgow heels is
Lady GaGa who skips 2 spots to #2, and
Kings of Leon, who ride the dirty south
Revelry up to #3 and will be a serious contender for #1 after this upcoming Tuesday's concert in T.O.
U2 are the only band making strides towards the top 5, as
Black Eyed Peas score their 6th top 10 hit. Their biggest charting single was
Don't Phunk With My Heart, which spent 2 weeks at #1.
Silversun Pickups and
Seether continue to make impressive strides with their phenomenal tunes, while
Metric is far and away with the greatest gainer this week. If I could assign spin bullets to tracks,
Gimme Sympathy would be at +1200. The track is ace.
Three high-profile debuts this week. The biggest comes from
Incubus who have previously scored two top 5 hits in
Dig and the late-blooming
Love Hurts. Next up is
The Killers with their third single from "Day & Age". It took me a while to warm up to
A Dustland Fairytale being a single, but truly, it is one of the best tracks musically from the album, even if it isn't the most immediately catchy. And last but not least is
Eminem with
We Made You. Marshall Mathers has not charted since
Sing For The Moment which peaked at #13, and has not had a "true" hit since
The Real Slim Shady, which managed to hit #4. I do really like this new one, but we'll see how long it lasts.
