J Cole also had collaborations with Jay-Z and Beyonce to increase his profile. If he had been on an Eminem track or even Timbaland, it would be more comparable.

I don't think Kendrick Lamar has the same buzz J.Cole did when 'Sideline Story' dropped, but at the same time Swimming Pools (Drank) feels like a cult hit. Everyone i know knows the song.

Not me. I projected 200k that week cause i knew he had buzz. Then again, I'm a fan of both. So maybe its a lil bitof delusion, but I feel like hes really popular in the Urban crowd atleast.

That's why I said "not many people." HITS even had to write an article about J. Cole's opening numbers. 200k was hardly the consensus, and I doubt the label was expecting it.

I'm not sure if 200k is in line for Kendrick, but would anyone really be surprised at a 120k+ opening? Hip Hop openings are usually crazy.

120k would be fine enough for me. I think #2 is on lock. Depends on how big Jason's drop will be.

A Kendrick/Eminem collab is bound to happen one day imo (although obviously it'll be too late by then to help his first-week album sales lol).

If this was back in like 2005 when Interscope were dominating, I think he'd be massive. I do agree that he seems to have a lot of hype though, at least on the hip hop websites I read. Hopefully he does well, but I'm not sure. Kendrick has even had a chart hit in the UK, which is certainly promising.
