Gwen Stefani's "Gold" Album Review With Song Descriptions
warning, this article is long as **** and only matters if you need song descriptions/summarys.
After two singles,
flop promotion and the album being released on May 3rd. We have waited a long time for this interview. Originally, Gold didn't chart at all
But, with this weeks new chart, It had a safe
and floppable as **** debut at 6. one spot below Bruno Mars new album Horizon. While it can be considered a flop debut, we still enjoyed the album. The albums opening track, Simple Reality, is a simple midtempo written by Stefani herself, about the simple reality that some things may not go your way. "I wrote it a few years ago, when a project with some of my friends started and failed quickly. At first I felt like a failure, but then I realized that some things don't really go your way.. I was young, like 19, We flopped.. hard. But it's fine now
"The second track, Runaway, considered the best song on the album, is basically a song is about a relationship, that's going in a bad direction, and features rapper Eminem "When I first got the idea for the song, I immediately wanted a rapper in it. Not just any rapper, or those ones who basically all they care about is hoes and drugs and money. Someone who can have the emotion and can deliver perfection. That's when I thought of Eminem. We contacted ShoTime (his label) and in a few days we recorded two songs, part one and two. One song has more of my singing, and one has more rapping, Actually, we got the equal deal in part one
It's not a collab. His part isn't 20 seconds that add nothing to our song. He gets the verses I get the hook and one part of the bridge and that's it. It's a duet. I'm proud of it
" The album moves on to a more uptempo direction, with sexy, radio friendly track named Hot. produced by pop hitmaker Max Martin. The lyrics obviously talk about some guy being hot, and it's the best pop song on the album. When asked if she was releasing this as th next single: "Maybe, maybe not. I think after two videos in a row about ending up having sex takes a tole on you.
Plus I have some other songs in mind as the next two. Maybe number five?
" The fourth track on the album is none other than Sweet Lover, the memorable top twenty hit, which peaked in top ten at times
It's a pop song of course, only with heavier rock elements. with a theme about wanting to take someone home. Or, just simply a love song
"Like I said before. I had my boyfriend in mind. I had just got signed and the label was offering some demos and I wasn't interested in any of them, we took a break and I went to get coffee and thats when I met him
I came back and had the inspiration so we worked and worked then I had that interview with VH1 and thus we had our single/song
" The next two tracks have more of a fame theme. With Cash, that serves more as filler or an intro/interlude, and the second single Hollywood. "I had a lot of fun making the song Hollywood, I was inspired by Madonna, to make the song. Originally I wanted Nicki Minaj to be featured in it, and I was gonna ask her if she wanted to maybe do a remix of it before she got dropped
" The next song is called Motherf**ker, which features plenty of foul language and a pissed off Gwen. The lyrics are quite immature at times, with the demo version having a controversial lyric: "I hope you have fun with her you motherf**ker, I hope she gives you AIDs you motherf**ker" On the lyric, Stefani says: "
Not proud of it
That's why we cut it off the final version." Gwen forgets all pop references in Gun Shot, and it is pure rock. Comparing getting shot to heartbreak, it definitely is a highlight of the album. The album goes a little bit easier in the reggae influenced Kickin' It. "I wanted to make a song about kicking it back and taking it easy, but I didn't want a messy dancepop song about it. I wanted to make something like The Lazy Song. not a ripoff because I won't be putting my hands in my pants at all
but a decent song. Just kidding Bruno
" With the third to last song, the emotional ballad Hold On To Love, which Gwen wrote all by herself, recieved mixed reviews from fans and critics. Some find it whiny. (but it's a BALLAD
) others believe the live version slays careers. Either way, it's a nice quality ballad. the next song, named I'm Done, a fiery break up anthem with cool pop rock production by Greg Kurstin and heavy P!NK teas, it's something you wouldn't really expect from Gwen Stefani. We [reviewer and Gwen] both agree that this would be a good single. Now after all that talk of love, fame, kicking it back and ANYTHING at all. it all ends with a nice pop song, based off of the Harajuku culture/fashion in Japan, Harajuku Dreams. Written and inspired by Gwen during her trip to Japan as a member of the 444 tour, Stefani claims this is one of her most favorite songs ever, Besides of course, Runaway, Us Hookers and Motherf**ker
All in all, Gwen tells some stories in this one, and it's an alright debut. We are very interested in her next album, and on that album itself, Stefani says: "I already have a album title....platnium
"
