Hey Patri, my boyfriend is dying to go to Italy, and I'm thinking of taking him there sometime. You should share some deets on places/resturants/happenings, etc.
Speaking of which, he's actually a member on here too.

Italy is amazing, Italians, however, are hard to deal with.
If start in Rome since most international flights land there. Vatican City is a must-see, the Coliseum & old forums too. Piazza di Spagna & Piazza Navona, basically all the famous piazzas.
If you're in Rome at least three days, I recommend you get the Roma Pass. It's 45€ if I remember correctly and it grants access to most big sites and the public transit system.
The place to go in the evening is Camp de' Fiori, there's a bunch if bars and pubs and full of young people. There's no public drinking laws so you can drink in the square itself. Just try and forget that they used to burn people at the stake there
Florence is my favorite city cause I'm a little obsessed with Dante Alighieri and the city is a treasure trove in that respect. It's less hot and crowded than Rome and easier to navigate so it makes for an overall more enjoyable experience. The basilica is beautiful but the Boboli gardens are a little bit
. The Uffizzi museums are also absolutely worth visiting but you have to make an appointment. Florence is great also because you can easily get to Pisa and Lucca, both great places but not worth more than a day trip. There's a resto that makes a great Fiorentina steak but I don't remember what it's called, I'll ask my friend and get back to you.
If you go in the summer, go to le Cinque Terre. It's 5 towns on the coast and in the mountains and they're absolutely stunning. Much nicer than overrated Tuscan countryside. Hotels are pricey there but if you look for appartments on airbnb you can find really affordable places.
Also, a general note for restos.
1. NEVER eat at a resto that has even the slightest view of a monument, they'll rob you blind.
2. The bread they bring on the table is usually charged and they don't tell you anything, if you don't wanna pay, tell them straight away.
3. A lot of restos have a tourist menu and a local menu, if the prices look completely ridiculous, chances are they're trying to shaft you. This is true especially in Rome. Unless you or your boyfriend speak Italian, there's no way to avoid the risk of that.
Also, never tip in Italy, it's not used anywhere and chances are they'll laugh.
That's all i can think of for now
