No it's not at all. It's the safest choice out there actually (along with Fading). There is nothing risky about Rihanna releasing a heartfelt ballad, she's proven her success with them before.

I can see it being released sometime in October as the 6th single but I would send it to urban radio first before I send it to Pop that's why I think a release to urban radio in July will do it best and a pop release at another time. I know this formula seem like a misfit and make it harder to go #1 but its not always about number ones its about appealing to a larger audience to buy the album. Cali King Bed or Cheers WILL NOT get urban airplay. She has Fly coming up in April to keep her urban audience at bay. Releasing Man Down in July will give her a big hit on that format. I am 100 percent positive. That song is bone of the best on Loud and has rihanna's best element, a defiantly catchy ad lib "ram pa pam".

Fan favorites do not sell albums or singles. Yes, all us stans will buy and support whatever she releases, but the whole point of singles is to capture those who are not already fans/own the album. A fan favorite (a risky one like MD) should not be released as a 4th single unless you only want 4 singles.
Man Down is not a guaranteed hit. It is very risky and no telling how it'll do. That's why it should not be released
now. To close out the era? Fine.
I don't see your point. You're saying Fly will keep the urban audience at bay, so who cares if CKB and Cheers don't get urban play? They don't need it. They'll be huge in all other formats.
Just because you think MD is the best on Loud doesn't mean it's a single. There is a difference. Last year, Cold Case Love and G4L was nearly universally praised amongst Rihanna stans as some of the best songs on the album. However, neither were single-worthy, so they weren't released. There's nothing wrong with an amazing song staying on the album. Singles don't mean they're the best song, they are just the most sellable.

She can submit CKB to Pop Vocal and ROTY
Man Down to Urban/Alternative Performance and ROTY
What's My Name to SOTY, Best RnB song and Best Rap/sung
Loud to Cont RnB album - pop will be too hard
Best Female RnB vocal to LTWYL part 2 (piano version)

I simply can't at you thinking Man Down would be nominated for Record of the Year. That is one of the most delusional things I've ever heard in my life, to be honest.

I don't know. Ask Bleeding Love, Take a Bow, Nothin' on You, etc.

I think that this time the Fan Favorite will be released. Coz unlike Fire Bomb this one is in a MUCH BIGGER ERA (in terms of success).
I mean, Fire Bomb was a risk and it could mean the death of Rated R.
But Loud is selling itself and a bad single performance wont affect it that much.
If Man Down does no good, then bring Cheers or CKB or even Fading (which screams Take a Bow Pt. 2 for me....)

No one said they don't like Man Down. Ya'll aren't listening. Us saying it is not a single does not mean we don't like it. People need to learn the difference between a good song and what should be a single. It's a business, not just about what is the 'best'.
And Fire Bomb was not a risk, at all. It probably would've been amongst the safest choices for a single from Rated R (along with Stupid in Love and Photographs). Rockstar 101 was the risk and the RR era paid for it. I don't see why you guys don't release that Man Down is this year's equivalent of Rockstar 101. Man Down is a step backwards for the Loud era and has a topic that quite frankly belongs on the Rated R album.
A bad single performance DOES affect the rest of the era. A flop single = less likely of a chance for the label to put out another one. Rated R was planned on being scrapped had it not been for Rude Boy's success. And the 2 lead singles were Top 10 hits (1 platinum, 1 gold)! Labels will not play around when it comes to underachievement.
