Brotherhood 'sped' through Hughes and Nina because it had actual pacing.

The entire concept behind most of the humonculi in the original serious was reductive if I try to bring them back to life it will work right? oops. and undermined the entire purpose of the damn adventure. This is especially apparent when we get to the final melodramatic episodes with Ed's death and Al's attempt to bring him back, because that worked so well in the past .

Lust's death in Brotherhood is far superior because it helps bring to light a central theme to the series rage produces an endless cycle of violence, pay attention to Hawkeye's reaction . In fact, in Brotherhood Envy was not killed by the Elrics but was forgiven and died due to his own self loathing . In the original series nobody learned a damn thing when it came to fighting and what did Mustang gain from killing Pride other than power? Vengeance? And what the hell was Hohenheim's point in the original series other than physically vouching for why Dante exists?

The biggest kii of the original series was the secret of the gate being the actual world and every time someone uses alchemy a person dies . Like, of all the uninspired ways to wring up some sort of reason to see why using alchemy is bad this tops it. Of course the movie had to try and justify this.

Brotherhood was consistent quality while the original series was a slow but quality ride at first, and then spiraled into melodramatic fluff. Fanfic-tier plot twists did not help the original anime from scrambling for an ending since the manga was far from being done at the time.

Every show has it's ups and downs and lack of quality in current seasons of DH doesn't take away it's cult show status. And until 2005 it was local to UK, I think. Still haven't watched 7-9 seasons
