There's been a complete failure by the mainstream political parties to explain to people why immigrants aren't a bad thing. They've been disregarded as racists and bigots for linking their decreasing quality of life with the simultaneous increase in immigrants, when really it's down to government policies and austerity- which perhaps explains the lack of depth in how the mainstream parties tackled these views. It's always been a kind of a half-hearted well-maybe-an-issue-maybe-not when they address it.
It's easier to let the immigrant hate continue than let it turn to your own party
