I know PRISM singles talk is kinda broken recordish, but hear me out. Us Kats were really spoiled by TD. An era having any more than 3-4 hit singles is very rare, some of the biggest eras of recent times only had 3-4 hits (21, any Gaga era, Red, Bruno's eras etc.)

The general concensus seems to be PRISM's singles should have been Roar, DH, Birthday, WoA and LL, but statistically at least one of these would underperform and another would flop anyway. We were lucky to get 4 Top 20s tbh.

Personally I never cared for sales. I care for the music and the look she serves us. With PRISM she failed at those two things that's why I'm a bit mad at her. ✝Flop with Dignity✝

She would've still gotten away with at least 3 #1's if she went Roar-Dark Horse-Legendary Lovers, and the momentum from that 1-2-3 punch alone would have guaranteed the succeeding single(s) to be Top 10 hit(s).

I'm still low-key glad she released Unconditionally because the video was a 10/10.

LL would have gotten tons of backlash for appropriation. Can you imagine the video? It could have Die Young'd the era tbh. Let's just enjoy it as the amazing album track it is.

Tity's gotten away with cultural appropriation (Uncle AMA's and Dark Horse MV). It wouldn't have mattered because her power would've been too much.

Plus the video would've been a lot better than what she offered for Birthday.

I had a feeling someone was going to say this so I had a response pre-planned.

The actual songs themselves weren't problematic; you could listen to Uncle and DH and if you hadn't seen the performance/MV it wouldn't matter. There's no escaping the appropriation in LL though. The faux Indian sitar, the lyrics about lotus/aura/mantra, illuminati conspiracy with the third eye etc.

The song is perfection but the GP couldn't handle it. I think we dodged a bullet tbh.
