Lord, went in a bit.

Thank you Graham Crackers for your post. However, there is a flaw in your logic.
TS2 and TS3 included both toddlers and pools in the base game. It wasn't time consuming back in pre-2004 and pre-2009, so why was it now? Why in the world were toddlers and pools last minute decisions? Those should have been created first and foremost. You can't expect us to play with features for 10-14 years then suddenly believe it was "not enough manpower" to get them in the fourth installment. I hate calling you out like this because you seem like a genuinely nice guy. But I will not literally pay the price for EA's refurbished monstrosity because of their bizarre perception of originally producing a game few fans asked for.
The Sims 4 feels like an uneven dessert: a morsel of cake (limited lots, lost life stage, etc.) and a mountain of icing (rocket ship, voodoo doll, "weirder stories", etc.) We like icing, but it's purpose is to enhance the treat not give us a toothache.

EDIT: Wait, other members are starting to go in, too.

So basically what you're saying is that the reason for why a lot of stuff didn't make it into the final game is because you didn't have the resources or the time to create basic features that everyone pretty much expects a new Sims game to have by now?
What exactly are you asking us to pay for? Your good intentions?
When I first read about the Sims 4 project a year ago I was honestly excited about it, but like most in the fan community I now find myself wondering exactly what it is that you're trying to sell here.
A slightly better CAS, brighter colors and *emotions*?
Emotions are not new.
Maybe TS4 emotions are different from the ones we previously had but they are not new.
I didn't pre-order and frankly I'm glad that I didn't.
I don't even have the option of going back to playing TS3, even though I paid for it - including all the EP's, because I'm a MAC user and you probably know the rest of the story.
But whatever, right? It will probably sell anyway, I know it and you know it, because despite everything, right now The Sims' franchise still has an ok reputation.
The question is what it will look like six months from now.

@SimGuruGraham, why do you have an abundance of FX folks and not enough people to actually work on the more complex aspects of the game (e.g. toddlers, swimming pools)? Why aren't resources being allocated to ensure that important---and dearly beloved---features make the cut?
Were the excess FX folks simply recruited for Store DLC purposes?

That's quite amazing. I mean, the tram model has to be designed, someone has to make the 3D rails which curve so nicely through the hood, someone has to make a "dingding" sound file, finally the whole neighborhood has to be designed to have extra tram lanes.
Uh, and what happens when my Sim crosses the road in front of the tram? Will it go through like a ghost train? (Can my Sim cross the road at all?). Doesn't this need to be coded or implemented somehow?
You sure it's just two days of work?

They deserve it. I also hope they get a media backlash when the game drops SimCity style. The Sims franchise as a whole is going downhill because of greed

He deserves it. If you can't take the flames, don't feed the fire. He should just have ignored this if he can't spin it.

Poor Graham, he's such a nice guy. But his flawed logic to defend this flawed game...

Why is he complaining about budget and time?
During The Sims 2 they didn't steal money from the gamers like they did during TS3 and 5 years after TS2, they release TS3 which was a huge (buggy) upgrade.
So how come they are releasing the downgrade that's TS4 when they had the same amount of time and they made more than what they did 2 games ago.?

They were developing an always-online Sims 4 game, but was scrapped because of the SimCity backfire.

I can understand having to scrap what you were going for and starting over - but learn your limits and don't piss off your audience. Push back the release date. It wouldn't hurt anyone at this point. Maybe their "debt" but EA is one of the richest corporations in the world so I doubt that.

So I installed and played The Sims 2 for a while and it's so damn hard to make friends and managing your sim... TS3 improved this aspect a lot, I hope TS4 follows up on the same track.

So TS4 we'll get now is a 1 year and a half creation?

Yes.
Why they did not delay it is beyond me. The last expansion for TS3 hasn't even been out that long.

The SCALPING.
Quote:
Extremely harsh post below, continue at your own risk.
This entire game is a complete and utter wreck, it will be the end of the sims series. People will buy the base game but the expansions will sell at a loss. Maybe not a the beginning, but slowly, you'll end up pulling in a loss. The sims game series will fall with this game. And all of the gurus, even you, Graham, will be jobless due to it. I know EA is a complete **** to work for, but you know what? This isn't all EA's fault. I'm going to risk being screamed at by a lot of you and say it.
You, the gurus, everyone working on the game, ****ed up. You didn't push for a delay so you could make something good. You didn't push for more resources, you didn't present your arguments to EA in a well enough way they said 'you know what, we understand, you can have a delay', you didn't try hard enough.
You made your bed and it's time to lie in it. I understand game design isn't easy, I understand 3d modelling, programming, etc. takes time, but you could have done more. This isn't a small issue like not having hot tubs in the base game, you guys have removed core features that were in the games from the very ****ing beginning.
This game will be Maxis's last game unless some miracle happens. Mark my words.
