Season 5 was a decline because of the Bolton story line. The Boltons are like the Meghan Trainor of Westeros, successful but no one is really here for their house or their rule.
People didn't watch the ACMs because they knew Katy was performing Dollys music, not her own original songs. She simply isn't a tribute act, despite how acclaimed her performance was.
The GP still care about her, and actually want new music from her.

Don't forget how they were literally supposed to introduce the second Targaeryan in Dorne. That was such an important detail in the book. How did they not include it?
