that Bye Bye was not a bad single choice, it was just weird timing that could've more promotion. I think it was actually IBLYLT that was the bad choice for it. But Migrate should've been the first single.

It was always kind of funny that so many reviews said some variation of "Bye Bye will be her 19th number one hit" and then it ended up peaking rather perversely at #19

I don't know that I would have released it as a single had I been at the steering wheel. I think it was chosen to try and repeat the Summer 2005 ballad magic of We Belong Together and you can feel that "this is for everybody" calculation a bit too much. Plus it's a morose subject anyway but especially during the summer months.
I stand by her releasing I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, honestly. I blame Bye Bye's commercial performance for breaking the momentum of the campaign. I remember Bye Bye peaking pretty quickly before dropping off and then there was just this chunk of time during which she had no active hit playing on the radio. Lovin' could have done a lot better, there just needed to be a song that kept the party going during April-May-June and kept her voice out there during those crucial post-opening week frames. We Belong Together was already marching up the charts when The Emancipation of Mimi came out and the album spent the entire summer in the Top Five.
