I did. I thought his character was the most interesting among the huge cast. I kinda wanted a spin-off of his character.

I have seen most of the Best Picture noms now, and if I have to rank them:

1. Room (this one really surprised me, watched it the day before the noms came out and I was really surprised by the love of Academy, angry that Tremblay was nowhere to be seen though, he carried the film)
2. Bridge of Spies (saw it two days ago and was ready for it to be my least favorite but I ended up loving it! Spielberg was snubbed!)
3. The Martian (I love space movies but unlike Gravity and Interstellar, I think it has lost its novelty value, I still love it though!)
4. Mad Max (very well deserved nominations, this year's technical film)
5. The Big Short (love the unconventional storytelling, I seriously thought Steve Carell could get a surprise nom though)
6. Brooklyn (one of the best romance films I've seen!)

It's very surprising I love all films in this year's race! I do hope Room could gain a lot of support and momentum, I'm tired of predictable winners winning again and again. Although that may change once I see The Revenant and Spotlight soon!

Completely. Schreiber deserved the Supporting Actor nomination. I even think that Ruffalo and Rachel were the weakest of the entire cast. Guess they got the noms just for being the most known?

At least Scarlett has a Tony Award, a British Academy Award, and an Honorary Cesar Award (just 2 years after Kate Winslet and a year before Sean Penn). It's the American film industry that's slow to recognize her.

Hopefully goodwill from Under the Skin (3rd place in #1 votes for best films of the year on criticstop10), Her (also 3rd place), Lost in Translation (2nd place), among others, will make the critics push her, and her being the female face of the blockbuster Avengers franchise as well as being the sole lead of a $400 mil grossing film will show her power in the industry.

Being the main female in a movie about the Golden Age of Hollywood, with Oscar favorites George Clooney and Ralph Fiennes, directed by Oscar favorites the Coen brothers, hopefully does the trick.
In the last 20 years, the only other woman who got a good precursor haul for a BP nominee but still lacks an Oscar nom is Mila Kunis, who was supporting and who has only had buzz for that 1 role.

I am so happy Brooklyn got a best picture nod. I saw several publications and predictions snubbing it and kept thinking that maybe it's just me but happy that Academy rightfully recognized it. Such a warm and beautiful movie. And to think I almost didn't like the book. I feel like the movie was able to portray Ronan's character and her dilemma much better than the book. The latter made her seem opportunistic.

Definitely think this is Leonardo DiCaprio's year!
